Two of mine have V's, the other two have C's with one of these having a thin 60's Jazz feel.

Depends on what the original customer ordered. But I'd guess the dealer stock ones back then defaulted to the standard V shape.

Wal basses are really exceptionnal basses, I love the sound and the electronics.

Here's mine : Extremely rare, full original (1993) and official Wal MK2 Geddy Lee transred with the black stripe on the top and back + Black laquer coated neck and headstock finish.

It is now for sale because I'm now exclusively a 5 strings bass player ; if someone is tempted, I'm open on trade offers with a 5 strings Wal bass (+/- cash).

I know this is a long shot but I would like to find my old Wal....it is somewhere here in the states.....W2478...wenge Mk I...I sold it to someone in Arkansas some years back....I have a couple things that person would love to play if I can find it....Cheers!

Check out classifieds, Caca de Kick is selling a sweet 5er.

If you want one new, you have to order direct through Paul at Wal. Last I heard was a 21 month wait.

Yes, Wal basses are currently being made. Have a look at http://www.walbasses.co.uk/ I haven't played one of the new ones yet, but they're being built by Paul Herman, who worked with Pete Stevens in the Wal shop, and by all reports they build quality is at least as good as "the old school ones".

Last month I went to the Wal workshop to collect my new bass, and I had the chance to compare old vs new ones..... While tonewise they're almost the same, I have to say that new ones show a far better fit and finish; the fret dressing is astonisging allowing incredibly low action with no buzz. I love my Wal!!!!!!!

Got it from a quick CL ad. Contacted him and snatched it up. I must say out of the three Wal basses, I'm loving the Mk II the most!

Im pondering a couple things

1. Buying back my Waller era MKI (rare Australian Lacewood)
2. Supplying Paul with a heavy (closely grouped) Canadian Birdseye Maple, and having him build me another MKII

Havent decided yet.

Although Paul's wait is so darn long!! I've been contemplating on a custom build but a 2 year wait is way to long for me.

The Mk II I got is a 2004 flamed maple with Pete's fish sig on the plate.

I would KILL for a Canadian BE eye top. Especially if you were able to take your pick. I assume you have a supplier or something? I believe I've seen you mention something like this in the past, TMB.

They do crop up there from time to time. Craigslist is actually where I found that violet Mk1 that's in your avatar, back when I owned it.

According to Paul's specs for billet size info....this block would make 4 basses...he makes a KILLING on the wood!

From NEW Wal shipped basses i have seen...Pauls current birdseye looks something like this, i have even seen a couple that have more space inbetween eyes.

Here is what the minimum spaced birdseye will look like from my supplier...just waiting for a call!!
He can get anything i want. Last time i was in there he had a Curly dark Walnut piece that was over 2" thick 10" wide and over 12 FEET long! was unbelievable

He is also on the hunt for bubinga (what old Wal used in necks) and he already has the "rock" maple for me. Told Paul i just may ship him all of the wood needed but the core.
