Dunlop nickels vs DR nickel low riders. Anyone tried both to weigh in? I was digging the DR’s on a non Wal but worried they might be overpowering in the mids. I tried a set of Dunlop nickel brights and hate them and looking to get them off soon. Any help and insight is appreciated, thanks.

Beautiful top on that. Why don’t you buy it and have it fretted? A member on this forum grabbed that olive ash fretless and is having it fretted and I think he said it wasn’t too expensive. Worth looking into.

I'm definitely looking into it, though that price point is already slightly stretching my budget. Appears to be in great shape though.

Yeah I don't get it.

It wasn't converted into a midi bass, it was purchased as a midi bass and used that way by Greg Lake on the Black Moon tour. There's a load of footage from the Live at the Royal Albert Hall DVD show. He used it to trigger midi modules as well as just as a bass. Dr Rob Burns (a well known name in the Wal world from the 80s) did the programming of all the synths and the MB4 module for him.

fell asleep and hit delete on my last post....

The midi module died on Greg and it's all long gone. So 13k is for a conventional bass at this point.
Modules are/were not available after the fact. One module was supplied for each bass system made, so if it dies or gets thrown out, you're out.
This bass will only function as a midi if a Wal Midi owner buys it.

I asked Jonas Hellborg if he was interested in selling his midi double neck. He said the cables are missing he hasn't been able to use it for a long time. Pete borrowed the cables from him to help another midi player that was in town, and Pete never got em back and he has no idea who it was.

I notice that MIDI bass has a recessed MIDI connector so that it's flush with the back side of the body. Knowing it was Greg Lake's bass, it's probably the only MIDI bass with that type of configuration. Every other MIDI Wal has a little housing box jutting out from the back side of the body.
