.I find nothing wrong with options to get close without being out $10K and 3 years. There is nothing like owning an original (why I broke down after years of deliberation), but we have to admit that the current cost of entry is very limiting.

Lets hope this will never happen and that Wal stays the same small company as it is now.

Deposit placed on Wal 6 today!! let the wait begin. Totally blessed that i could make this decision and only through sacrifice and hard work could i afford to do so. Plus selling a bit of gear didnt hurt.
I have just been down this road and have this exact setup..it is a really lovely and unique setup i love my bass built like this to bits Rautia makes lovely pickups and you wont be dissapointed...
i also just ordered a AUD $13000 Wal...it may be an upgrade for your MM and it'll be a seriously awesome one but it still won't scratch the Wal itch IMO.
Hey there Wal Bass Club members! I hope everybody is having a nice day. I wanted to share a slow breakdown of Rush's Big Money on my Wal Mk1. Mainly the tricky parts. When I first heard this song, it was very evident that I needed a Wal ASAP! I'm sure many others were also bit by the same bug I was. Welp, I hope I can help some of you out in learning this beast of a song. Subs are appreciated! I will of course sub back! Thanks!
Do you have a real low action? Or really strings like Geddy had on his Wal? I read 30 for the G! Sounds almost like you are slapping the G string.
I can't hang with strings that light. Why did Geddy use 30-90's on there? is that what Peter happened to have on the bass Geddy borrowed?
Yes, that's exactly it. The Wal that Geddy initially borrowed from Peter Collins was strung with the Rotosound Superrwound light set (.030 to .090).
I tried them on my Wal when I first got it, and they did have a really unique twang to them--as heard on those Ruch recordings!--but they did lack some low end beef. I ended up moving up to heavier strings eventually, and still got 90% of the way there with the "pick attack" switch.

Yes the tone on that video video is also too snappy for me. The notes on the G almost drop dead. But each his own of course.
Love the Geddy tone on his Wal though. I read he wanted a more beefy tone later when he moved to Fender jazz again. He might as well had moved to thicker strings on his Wal instead. But a Fender jazz sounds totally different than a Wal. A jazz has much more treble, more bottom and less mids.
Mark King also uses that thin strings. I have tried a 35 for the G a few weeks. Nice for slapping but too buzzy for fingerstyle for me.

No sir... I sold it quite a number of years ago to another fellow here on TB. Times were different then, and I definitely miss that bass.
On the plus side, the buyer was gracious enough to promise me that if he ever decides to unload it that he'd reach out to me first.

No way. I would be ripping those off the fingerboard. I attack the hell out of the strings. My Mk1 actually came with the Rotosound Funkmaster set that Geddy used back in the day. I tried to use them for a half hour and took them off. D'Addario 45-100 all the way.
