Yes he did have a Mk2 midi 4, it was shedua, and I believe it was an early version one with the hex pickup by the bridge. I remember someone had a picture of it when it was for sale afterward in a shop.

I'm surprised King doesn't play a Wal more often... I mean I get it, we all gravitate to a particular bass... but I've had a hard time putting it down and playing my other 4 great basses ever since it showed up! And that tone! wow...
You probably know the tale of how Mark King went off to spend his band advancement on a Wal, and ended up getting a ripper deal in the JayDee. The rest is history, as they say. Some blame goes to his hero Stanley Clarke, for whom the Jaydee has actually been built.

You hardly hear the bass and the vocals are annoying
Maybe he did find the Wal less suited for slapping because of the large distance from body to string? That’s why some use a see through small pick guard under the g string near the neck. I am used to that distance for slapping but most prefer less distance.
thanks for sharing... this video reminds me of how I've ALWAYS hated how TV production types always pay 99.9998% of their attention to the singer and ignore the guitars and drums... and IF they do provide .00001% attention it's to the lead guitar or for .1 seconds the drummer.. sigh..

These do exactly what I want to hear a bass do. When I got my first Wal I had a collection of a dozen wonderful Musicmans, and a half dozen Fenders. Now, I only have 1 Musicman and a couple of Fenders, and sold the rest of nearly everything off to buy more Wals.

Much better bass sound, although it does remind me of the story of Guy Pratt spending thousands on a midi setup and realising he just purchased “a really expensive octave pedal”!

I used my Jazz last night and it sounded beautiful, but I had to really play it to get some punch. I kept fiddling to find a Wal level of presence
I have one Jazz and one Stingray, I'm happy to have more Wals but the two of them perform different roles for my playing, I wouldn't want to dump either

I turn 50 this year and decided to order one of the last basses on my GAS list.
The dealer gave me a very generous trade in offer on my Stingray so I will be parting with it.
I’m a firm believer if a wonderful bass stays in its case most of the time, it should be sold to someone who will play the hell out of it!
I don't know about the recent ones but normally it's just plastic I think.
The nut used to be a synthetic material, mixed with graphite, those are the black nuts. I've seen bone-coloured and brass too on a Wal.

Yes, he did have an MB4 and got it from Pete right around the same time I got my MK2 5.Not necessarily, I could be wrong,
Pete Stevens told me he was excited that they had the exclusive on the tech until Peavy bought it.
