Anyone else seen this? It says factory installed Wal pickups and preamp. Looks super impressive and a price to match.

That is the second Waldera I’ve seen. If I’m not mistaken this might be the first one.

It seems a good idea as I have no doubt the Foderas play better than Wals do. I like the Wal sound but their design and execution feels a little crude to me.
Yeah that would be in OZ prices..my custom order will end up around $15k delivered in the end for reference..
No - the 5 string was done many years prior to the 4 string.....one of the guys here on TB owns that one

Really? Not sure what strikes you as crude regarding Wal's execution or design? Granted, that doesn't apply to the Pro 1 fretless I had - very ordinary build quality and execution. But all the later Wal's I've seen and the one I own is first rate in every respect...

Yup, the 5 string is probably 15-20 years old now. The original guy owned a beat to heck Mk2 5 string and had the Fodera built with the guts from it. The empty carcass had sold over and over no one could ever restore it, and last I heard I think it ended up in Germany?

The 4 string...its electronics came from a bass I sold, It was a bass I had parted together from original parts, but in the end that bass got parted back out and make two Wals complete again.

Really? So you have owned all three models of Wal to say they all play less than stellar?
I’ve spoken with him before and if I recall correctly he considers the electronics to be the only really special part of the bass, with the build quality being nothing of particular remark. Having never played a Wal myself I can’t really say, nor do I know of which Wals he has played in the past which have led him to this conclusion... all I know is when I watch an unboxing video like the one @SamJ posted, I can’t help but think to myself, “wow that looks like absolute top notch build quality regardless of the electronics”..
Wal Basses are in the same echelon of top-quality builds as Fodera, Ken Smith, and whatever else, you name it...
we’re all a little different though so I can see how someone may not prefer a Mk1 body shape, but my Sunburst Mk3 is the most comfortable bass I have ever played. The solid ash body resonates so well and the bass is incredibly light to me...a lot of that has to do with the over-the-top perfection when it comes to the balance and ergonomics of the Wal Mk3. As one stunned audience member put it after a show...”That bass is t*ts!”

They feel very much an instrument conceived of 1970's ideals. Slab bodied, V-necked and all. Mk1's feel the most archaic, because they are.
