Hey are any of you guys local or actively in touch with Wal? I need help getting a small replacement part (single piece 4-string string retainer) and Wal have been (understandably) unresponsive to my emails so far.

Put “URGENT” in the subject of your email, that’s what I did to get a saddle block for the recent mk1 that I sold, I got a response quick, and received the part quick too. As for the string retainer, make sure that they have it plated, a few years back I ordered one of the old style 2 string retainers, they sent me one that wasn’t plated, and I had to get it plated locally, it turned out great but what a PITA.

yeah I remember passing on an mk1 with peeling facings for 1.7k a few years back... that’s gonna live rent free in my mind for the rest of my life
Don't let it bother you. I was told it still peeled and got worse.

I wonder if a luthier re-faced the Wal with a new top. The four tone/volume control knob holes aren't all there on this one. That would also make sense about the laminate being so odd-looking.
My gut tells me they're hoping buyers will be compelled by the "(last P.B. model)" note under the hood. And it's a NYC store. They can sit on it for a while.
That's because this is a passive Pro Bass 1, not a Custom Model Mk1.
The Pro models in this era are front loaded, and had the tear drop front control plate.
When these bodies were being created in 81/82 many had weird combinations of laminates: Lots of them with triple laminated between the facincgs, also there's some that have center stripe laminates of like 6-pieces. I don't see anything all that unusual about the body.
A guy on facebook Wal Lovers page recently pictured his single pickup Pro1 fretless with a contoured Mk1 style body.

So it's a 2000 MkII lined fretless. When it first arrived the fretboard was not in the best shape so I gave it a bit of love and now it is in the shape it deserves to being a Wal and all....
