This is my new-to-me MK I. What an amazing sounding bass this is. Yup, huge array of available tones. Don't let the fretless fool you...it still rips your face off! I just got back from the first time playing it with the band, and the guys were blown away, and it even made the guitarist smile. Tomorrow night is it's first gig.

Hi all,
I'm new to this forum and love to see all the pics that once were to be seen on Steve's "official" WAL-Website. Well, here are mine in front of my Glockenklang practice amp in Germany.
The first pic shows my 1992 MK II Midi Bass - awesome possibilities together with my E-MU Proteus 2000 synth.
The second is a beautiful lined fretless MK I from 1986 with acid stained maple veneers.
There's one lacking, it's my fretted MK II 5-string Black Polyester with gold hardware from 1987.
I also dared building a hybrid-WAL together with a famous German luthier consisting of a 1979 fretless WAL Pro Bass neck and a custom-made body made of American buckeyed burl and a Canadian poplar core, fitted with a MMC Bartolini pu and an Aguilar OBP3 preamp. As you can clearly see - you really get addicted to these brilliant instruments and GAS is always biting ...

That's one of the biggest problems with Wal basses as far as I'm concerned... it's extremely hard to own just one!

BTW - if anyone needs a number, just post your request here and I'll add you. It's great to see this thread pop up every so often, although it would be much better if there was some hard news to report.

What the hell. I've avoided ever becoming a member of any club on TB before...why not start now that I have my dream Wal. Will post picks tomorrow but I just got a black 86 Mark I Geddy Lee 4 string. I love it. It belonged in my collection listed below. I hope I get a good #!

This has been my only bass for the last 25 years. The facings are sycamore from discarded wood found in a skip in Leeds (quite unique even for Wal). Purchased 1983 and modified by the Wal guys in High Wycombe around '93 with a completely new Fender style body. The original neck was shaved down to Fender Jazz proportions -very slim and even narrower at the nut than a Jazz bass. The neck sits into the body deeper than the regular model also on request. Contouring on the back of the body and the top (where my right hand comes down) is very shapely and very severe - so the bass weighs a lot less than a regular Wal. Pete was surprised I wanted so much wood taken away.

The sound character of this wonderful instrument is sublime and I can honestly say I've never played a better bass guitar...anywhere.

Yep...I won the MKII Walnut 4 string on last thursday!

Here's mine. Good: Flexible yet has its own sound. Very consistent from string to string, not too heavy. Good investment. Bad: Can't afford another one.
