Wal Bass Club.

I love wenge on my 1995 Wal bass; on mine (the photo shows it quite well) the grain is straight and dense since it is quartersawn.
While quartersawn might not be the most eye catching piece of wood, it makes the bass an extremely punchy machine (for softer approaches I rely on my 2011 walnut top mkII 4).
And…. Yes, mine is as heavy as it looks

I don’t know for sure, from what I see and what’s written inside the control plate, it’s simply wenge, with no more additional infos.
I bought it used 6 years ago for a steal of a price here in Italy; as far as I know the original owner was French, and in the past I have tried (unsuccessfully) to gather info regarding previous owners.

it’s a 1995 and it is signed by….. Paul

Hey gang. Got my much anticipated email from Paul tonight with my facings. Pretty easy choice for me but thought I'd post up for you all for fun.

Anyway tell us what you think and I'll tell you what I picked tomorrow night. The idea that I'll have this thing finished this year is very exciting!

sorry for asking, when did you place your order? My deposit for a new build was received by Paul on Jan 11 2021 and still no news ‍♂️

thanks

I too have a build order, placed mine end of Sept 2020, no news either. I probably won't hear anything until closer to summer.
Thanks Mike, but now I’m curious about the specs.
Mine will be a 4 strings mkII with padouk facings (with sap line in the center); satin body finish and gloss for the neck.
Ebony fingerboard with standard front dots and blue luminlay side dots.
Chrome hardware

That one passed through my hands, too--definitely one of my favorites!

It was a great bass! It had the thinnest front-to back profile neck I've ever had on a Wal. I feel like a dolt for letting it go the 2nd time, but it payed for a 5 string that I needed for my (now current) band when I first joined them.

The standard Was neck profile never bothered me, but what I really liked about that one was the tone! More solid in the lows and transparent in the highs than most of the others I've had, which I always attributed to the ebony board, maple facings, and gloss finish....

Too easy, I was July 2020. Paul said they are slightly behind but hope to catch back up to being around due date which was at the time quoted 36 months. I know not long after that he started quoting with a longer than 36 months so not sure. I did send an email so maybe at the 6 months to go mark if you haven't heard send them an email.
