If overall quality difference, the consensus I've heard as well is Paul basses do not disappoint! I'm hoping some day to get a new build but it's not in the cards right now.

Paul's craftsmanship is faultless. The "new Wals" that Paul has made for me are better made than the Pro I I bought in 1984 and I cannot find any faults with them, and I am particularly picky.

Both from a wood working perspective and when I open the back cover and look at the electronics, it all looks faultless.

You then need to compare this with other brands, for me only Roger Sadowsky NYC basses match Pauls craftsmanship.

It´s Shedua (Ovangkol) but looks less brownish that other ones I´ve seen.

Paul employs a few folks part time for specific tasks that he trusts theirs skills at and is comfortable delegating. He does most of what you would consider luthier work himself.

Paul worked at Electric Wood for years with Pete. Not sure of his starting date, but I believe it was at least in the early 90s.

Bass gallery Camden...not a bad price either. I was acctually looking for a fretless mk1 at the time and in desperation bought this with a mind to defrett but once I got it home I fell in love with it as it was....I just couldn't bring myself to mess with it in any way...
