Random curious question... Since the prices have skyrocketed in the last few years, have any of you been more selective with what gigs you take your Wals to? I know there's the whole 'you have one of the best basses on earth, why wouldn't you?' But still, I'm sure some of us probably do gigs where you gotta deal with drunks, bad areas, etc.
I bought a Stingray 5hh and I've been using that more as my gig bass and saving the Wal for the special ones.
Well, that and the 'Ray weighs almost 3 pounds less.

No point in having it if you're not gonna play it.
Yes that's the downside of these insane prices. You have to be extra careful with your bass at gigs. Don't leave it unattended for example or put it in its bag when you don't use it for a while on a gig or after a soundcheck. I never take my Wals to jam sessions for example or gigs where there are lots of people coming on and off the stage etc. It's a bit a shame that it works like this but it is how it is.
No not really.... I play in two groups, my main one is a casino circut band, and I use them at all those gigs, but they're big stages and no drunkards in these places.
The other group I play in is a live karakoke band. I was using my Mk2 5 initially, but I switched to mainly using my StingRays, they're a little more forgiving and blend more, especially for songs Im a little unsure of, where the Wal tells all. I love my StingRays, always have, so still love using them.
But even when I was in original bands I used them. If I went back to one I'd have no problem primarly using the Wal. But yeah doesn't have to be every gig, some bars arent that good, so yeah I'd have no big deal playing something else from my fleet.

Never been a worry for me - played them in all sorts of situations (tend to bring the Frankenjazz for outdoor stuff, in case of inclement weather). They are regulars at our weekly jam night. Me playing my Pro a few weeks ago…
I'll give a shout-out to Evan Gluck/New York Guitar Repair. I don't know for a fact how experienced he is with Wals, but he owns a couple of high-end Foderas and an Alembic SC Signature, and he's worked on my Modulus, Lakland, and Tom Anderson-built Schecter, so he definitely knows his way around boutique instruments.

Paul at Wal has replacements pots. I ordered some a few years back for a passive Pro I had. Its best to have him do the updates and give it a good once over, but if you're handy with a soldering iron, its a good DIY project. This was the write up I got after he mailed me the parts.
These were the pots that were sent - spindles needed "some" trimming.
