Wal Mart and their ridiculous practices

Ever see a raccoon-eyed, teenage emo-goth trendy girl throw a screaming crying hissyfit about how "unfair" it is that she got caught stealing $100 worth of mascara?

Makes my day. :p

"But my parents let me do whatever I want!"
...and that's why you're in the back of a poilce car wearing handcuffs right now; what's your point?

LOL, yep. As one of the guys who drives the police car, I've pretty much heard it all!

Or the indescribably satisfying look on a person's face when they find out that those 9 boxes of $80 diet pills puts them well over the $500 felony limit; and no, we aren't going to "just let her put them back?" :D

must be almost as smugly satisfying as telling the customer who just purchased a piece of equipment the day before (and ovepaid, at that, by about 50 bucks) that they cannot allow the return, even if they have the card they used to purchase the equipment, and in the process wasting a half hour of the customer's time and treating that customer like a crook and an idiot.

oh, wait. :ninja:

wow, sounds like a sweet place to work - maybe i should apply :D.

Understood John, but is that company policy, or just an individual idiot?

...hmm...well, you COULD just call the CC company and describe that experience, and guess who wins THEN.

If that's corporate policy, it's stupid, you NEVER beat the customer with the CC company, EVER. Just give the customer a refund and be done with it.

Return policy....yeah, there are some complete boneheads working in the stores, but those people are everywhere, not just WalMart. One minute they accept the return of skidmarked underwear that the customer SWEARS were "never worn;" the next they're refusing to refund or exchange for the broken toaster that was bought only an hour before.

I call it SPAM. Some People Are Morons.

no idea. i didn't have the stamina after that encounter to even bother again. i had been a pretty good customer up to then - used it as my emergency net shopping stop, getting everything from the essentials and groceries to last minute holiday and gift shopping - but after that whole episode i was cured.

i don't take too well to being treated that way. never have. very loyal to those that treat me well, not very forgiving of the jerks though.

i'm only bringing it up here because, tbh, i've never had the chance to vent about it, and frankly i'm a bit steamed still, six months later. it's the -principle- of the matter, not the 50 bucks i got hosed on, nor the blu-ray player that wouldn't work with any of the monitors or tvs that i own except in the lowest resolution mode (i.e. like a dvd player  ). i -know- that the folks can check my card and see that i made this purchase on the card - i had -seen- them do it before at other walmart stores. i do not appreciate some minimum wage high school dropouts giving me guff and looking at me like i'm a thief because i happen to be cutting into their social time and actually requiring them to work at their jobs.

no, it was me, and it was a blu ray player. didn't have the connections i needed to connect the thing properly to the computer monitor i was planning on using with it.

furthermore, once i get it home, i see it advertised in a bunch of places for 50 bucks less than walmart was selling it for. normally, if it worked, i wouldn't have worried (i had bought a bunch of blu rays that i wanted to see, so i didn't really care about the 50 bucks, but that was another thing).

i guess i could be blamed - i didn't check out my monitors completely for the appropriate connections, nor did i check to see what connections were there on the blu-ray before i bought it. it was an impulse buy - we had wanted to get a blu ray for some time, and we decided hey, why not? the fact is, when i did decide to impulse buy i drove past a half dozen stores like best buy and kmart to go to the walmart and buy from -them- because i had drank the "always lowest prices" koolaid. that was six months ago. after the refused return, i haven't been back since. they've lost 10x as much business from me, if not more, since then, and they'll continue to lose more.

Papa, wasn't me that was returning something, it was JT...I'm just mentioning that you can win the battle if necessary, because the CC company will always side with the card holder (which I learned from experience with retail customers being jerks...sigh...).

Some people do come in with a very anti-walmart attitude (then why even shop here????). For those people, every single little thing that they dont like, from not carrying the brand of cat food they want, or getting a shopping cart with a squeaky wheel, to a legitimate gripe, is evidence of "how walmart is destroying this country." Those people aren't there to shop, they're there to reaffirm their anti-wm beliefs. Those are the no-wins; there's nothing you can do to make them happy.

Unfortunately, like i said, some people are morons. The concept of good customer service is completely lost on them. Those are the ones the rest of us are embarrassed to be working with.

JT, from what it sounds like, there was no reason for them to have refused your return. A BluRay player that wasn't compatible with your TV? No problem. Unless there was some issue with your credit card company (idk... lol), that shouldn't have happened. Go back in & ask to speak to either to store manager or a co-manager (they're the ones directly under the store mgr) and explain the situation. OR... try here: Link Removed. A lot of people have gotten good results from the online customer service.

Listen to me...like a freakin' wallyworld shill. :help:

I had a headlight bulb go out on me at 10pm on a Sunday. No auto parts stores open that time of night. Everybody else was closed, too. The gas stations in town were understaffed with no mechanics, just attendants in plexiglas cages whose language I could not speak fluently enough.

The choices: risk a ticket / repair order on the drive home, or go to Wal-Mart. Guess what I did?

If there's one thing you should NOT go to WalMart for, its tires and oil changes! They don't require their lube & tire techs to be certified at all. The last guy they hired for mine was asked if he was ASE certified. He said no, but he changed his own oil once, so he has experince.
This goofball drove a customers brand new Benz into the back end of the suv in front of it in the garage. Right in front of the customer, too. That was not a good day. :rollno: He's out of a job and none of us will be getting that quarterly bonus for a while! $$$$

The first link is a guy who used to work there (who knows when or for how long). Wouldn't this be the same kind of anecdotal "evidence" that we're NOT supposed to listen to? :eyebrow:

No, I never said we shouldn't listen to anecdotal evidence. So far we only have anecdotal evidence, including yours. What else could we listen to?

The 2nd link is to a news story from 1999. That's 10 years of changes in corporate policy!

Its an official statement from a corporate spokesperson as to what Walmart's policy was at the time. So far, we have no official evidence of a change of policy, only anecdotal evidence. Have you got anything better that explains official policy now?

Both links are useless to present as evidence of an alleged current policy.

They are no more useless than your assertions as to current policy (which are presented without any corroborating evidence). Perhaps if you would disclose your position in the company it might lend more weight to your evidence, but even that would still be anecdotal.

And if a person steps out in front of you, and one behind, and probably even a third, and they say they need to speak with you...would you consider yourself to have been apprehended? Or seized? Or caught?
No. Especially, having not stolen anything. I would dodge until one of them touched me, then punch the #$%@ out of him. It would be on tape. :smug:

Walmart... :spit: :rollno: :scowl: More like MallWart, honestly.

I still remember being asked to help out our loss prevention person when I worked at Costco. Mostly because I'm 6'2", 235 lbs and she was only about 5'4", 120 soaking wet. Even then, the most I was allowed to do was to restrain by the arm and only if necessary (as dictated by her). Plus, up here in Ontario, it ain't shoplifting until the suspect exits the front doors.
