wall-mounting a headless instrument

I moved to wall hangers years ago & love how it cleared up my floor space & actually allowed me more room for my 'stuff'.

Regarding headless instruments however, it requires another solution for wall-hanging.
Anyone out there hanging their headless?
and what are you using?

I noticed Strandberg has something for theirs:

Loop a leather strap over one of your wall hangers. It needs to be long enough to reach you lower strap button. Close the fork on your wall hanger so it is a ring. Now you can slide the end of the neck into the ring and the strap can hold the bass by the bottom button. Or mount a second hanger at the bottom button.

I know it's meant as a joke, but if I could just turn it upside down I'd do that.
The hanger is too close to the ceiling & neck is too wide on that end.

The Strandberg one might work:

the stud on this one is in a spot where part of the instrument sticks out into the hallway
If I could reposition that with a 6-1/2 lb. headless, oh joy!

It would become my showpiece, LOL

after reviewing further, the Strandberg hanger won't work, even if I were to hang it more horizontally:

Honestly, I would use wall hanger with a latch lock for the top, and use the part that the body sits on a floor stand and mount it at the bottom. I don't have any of those, so I don't know if the tube wall is thick enough to tap a thread in it, if not I would cut a section the tube out that holds it, and find a way to mount it to a piece of wood.

I was honestly hoping Hercules had a solution, but not finding anything on their site.
Their standard wall-hangers have been great, I like how the holder swivels to meet the headstock shape, my only issue is that the machine-head on one of my basses actually goes down into the padding on the hanger.

You could build a small shelf, fashion it to the bass body if needed, install a lip around the front/side edges. Then use the hanger to keep the bass vertical, and make a retainer to keep said bass from falling forward. A little woodworking if you like that DIY sort of thing.

I'm not equipped to do any kind of woodworking or shelf-building.

This one would be great if it allowed me to put the instrument more vertical:

Seems like the String Swing would do it:

It's possible to rotate it from being horizontal to 'almost' vertical.
I've been meaning to get my stud-finger out & see if there's any wood behind that location, but the 'stud finder' goes nuts when I'm in the room. I need to get someone to help me.

I got the stud-finder out & it seems there is a stud right where the String-Swing would probably work, so I'll be ordering that soon, if I don't see a better solution first.

This is what Jakob is talking about. Super easy, super effective.

Small leather strap, this one is 10” long, 1/2” wide. Two holes punched in the ends (one on each end). Zip tie, flat, around the neck, above the nut, run zip tie through each of the holes on the leather strap. Allows for vertical hanging on a hook or an already mounded wall hanger.

I had a Traveler bass that was headless. From the factory it had a leather strap friggen zip tied end to end above the nut.
Hokey but functional.

I like this, if space allows.


There are these S hooks that when a mop or broom handle go in the the weight of the tool makes the hook grab the front. This is the best I could find online but hardware stores have big versions that would fit your bass neck.

There will be pressure on the strings though, as that is where it clamps and holds the items.
Not sure of the long term use of this. Foam or something soft would also need to be placed on the wall where the body will touch it.

Or the S hook for the head then just a small piece of something to hold the bottom up to prevent gravity from sliding.
A small wall shelf just big enough to hold the body, or a big one with the body in the middle and other items on each side.

Or them door stops, they have some pretty fancy ones these days. Not just the boing a boing ones.
Two a few inches off center of the bottom of the body mimics an A Frame Guitar Stand. Preventing slide down as well as side to side swing.

Or them small rubber coated wall hooks at the bottom.

Hopefully this will spark something usable.

It is hardware store time!

I use String Swing headless guitar wall mounts. Love them. They will rotate and work like a charm.

So using the rubber spacers that Hercules comes with im able to use there hangers. I never knew what these were for but glad I saved them! I tugged pretty hard on the bass while in the hanger it isn't going anywhere.

I'm sure my Hercules hangers did not include those, but I bought some on eBay that will arrive soon.
