wall-mounting a headless instrument

I'm sure my Hercules hangers did not include those, but I bought some on eBay that will arrive soon.
Thats too bad. The spacers did come with all 4 sets I bought last year but who knows.. I never knew what they were used for and thought it was just worthless packaging. But as I get older I hold on to more stuff ( in case I find a use for it) and glad I did. Either way the spacers do work which is awesome!

I forgot about those. :thumbsup: :thumbsup:

They are so you can hang banjos, mandolins and other small necks and Hercules only need to make one size hook. Just add or subtract spacer.

Did not think of headless, thanks for posting. :drool:

The narrow-neck adjusters arrived & now I'm sure my Hercules hangers didn't come with these, because they're 3mm too long.
If anyone is wondering how they're installed:



please note that one end is 19mm inner-diameter & the other is 21mm I.D.
They put them on with the smaller diameter in front.

So, tomorrow I'm going to do some careful cutting to allow the locking mechanism to function, while maintaining the rest of the 'rubber-bumper' as-is.

Are you saying the bumpers won't fit on the wall hanger or the floor stand? I obviously can't read because It says right on the back of the packaging what they are used for and I

Only the "Plus" series of Hercules Wall Hangers and Guitar Hanging Stands that come with the Narrow Instrument Neck Adjustment, and they are relatively new in the market.

Are you saying the bumpers won't fit on the wall hanger or the floor stand? I obviously can't read because It says right on the back of the packaging what they are used for and IView attachment 4051505 had never read it. But it also looks like Hercules may have just upgraded them?
Most likely K_b_D's Hercules hangers are the older series/not the Plus model and seems the N.I.N.A. were not designed with the older hangers in mind.

My 10+ year old Hercules wall hangers like yours measure 1 and 3/8 of an inch out, while my newer stand (plus like you cued up in the video link) that came with the spacers measures 1 and a 1/2 inches.

Guess they make them a bit longer now.

Only my newer Plus stand came with inserts.
 
I dropped the EHB1500 into my Hercules floor-stand today with a pillow behind the bass & over carpet, in case it fell out, but it's been in there fine for hours, w/o the narrow-neck adjusters:
It's almost identical to my wall-hangers, but the wall-hangers can pivot/pitch.

edit/add:
definitely adding at least one of those narrow-neck adjusters, because the padded bushings on there can compress by about 2mm each!

There's exactly 5mm of wood holding the thing in there, would you find folks trust that?
(neck flare width vs. width of channel in hanger)

Keep in mind those are padded bushings on the hanger, so they compress a little & I measured the channel with the bushings uncompressed.
I would add something to the bottom to help, like my door pin or shelve type of idea previously mentioned.

One pin on either side of center at the bottom will prevent the side to side swing.

I like the swing because I bump my basses and the swing absorbs the impact, for the headless swing would not be wanted.

Still like the inserts added for more piece of mind.
 
I carefully cut just 1 of the narrow-neck adjusters fitting it to my Hercules floor-stand & when done I transferred it to the wall-hanger:
Tomorrow I may cut the other one to leave on the floor-stand, but I might just put the instrument on there & give it a few tugs to see if it pulls through.
I did that with the wall-hanger & with a little more force I could have pulled it right through the channel.

There are two differences between the wall-mount hanger & the floor-stand hanger:
floor-stand will not swivel/pitch, it stays level
the foam bushings that touch the headstock do not spin on the floor-stand, but they will spin on the wall-hanger

So, bearing that in mind I had already decided to put 1 narrow-neck adjuster on the wall-mount, which actually makes it level when the asymmetrical Ibanez heads are in there.
Reason being that when those bushings can spin the compressed part can go into the channel parallel to the neck of the bass & make the gap in the channel wider, thus getting closer to not containing the instrument.

OTOH, the floor-stand's difference actually give it the advantage to holding the instrument in-place. I put it in there today & tugged on it with a fair bit of force, not coming close to coming out.
With the wall-mount hanger I could have pulled it free, because of the aforementioned attributes. The thing tilts to match the force & the compressed area of the bushings could roll into the gap.

Another reason I put the extra bushing on the wall-mount is because it will be hanging there 23 hours/day, whereas the floor-stand will only get used when I take the instrument out back to perform for the trees.

in retrospect, I could have just grabbed a pool-noodle or summat & stuffed it on there, but hey it was only $7 USD to get the actual thingy from Hercules

May need to just get a new version that was made for and comes with the adapters.

When I get back home next year, I'm simply going to make an L bracket (the bit off the wall) to sit all of the paddle shaped basses and guitars and use wall mounts with the rubber garter to stop the instruments falling forward. As they all have 2 strap buttons on the bottom, they can sit in the lower L bracket.

The Status is going so that one won't be an issue.

My solution worked, but I'm never satisfied.
The adjuster cuff spins just a tiny bit every time you drop the instrument into the cradle, so it works it's way around until it's impeding the movement of the lock arms.
They also work their way 'forward', backing away from the wall.

Not an issue to reposition them every day, for a normal person, but now I'm wishing I'd bought the new version of the hanger at Sam Ash on Saturday.
It was right there in front of me, I got a good look at it & thought, "I'll come back to this after finding a case for my new bass.", but I forgot.

Another solution would be to zip-tie it on there, LOL!
maybe I'll try that real quick tomorrow, when the sun is up
