So in the last week I've been a sanding and buffing fool. It turns out that the conversion varnish buffs out very easily and looks great. First I flattened the finish with foam pads and then I wetsanded with 1200 and 2000 grit paper, making sure to remove all the scratches. Once I was happy with the sanding I used foam rotary pads in a cordless drill to apply cutting compound and then swirl remover to get a nice gloss. The back of the neck and fingerboard was wetsanded up to 2000 grit and then left to keep a slick satin feel. The headstock face is polished to a high gloss to match the body.

I still have to fine tune the setup and make a new nut, but otherwise it's ready to go. I'm hoping to record a video with sound in the next few weeks. Thanks for following along.
