Let me start out by saying I have no affiliation with Walter Bass Co, I'm just trying to express how impressed I am with the work being done by a new luthier here in the states.
I'm always on the look out for new luthiers/bass builders that are doing something interesting but don't yet have the name cache to make their work unattainable for my working class income.
Enter Walter Bass Co. Handmade in the US by Tom of BONK Bass Products on reverb.
As far as I can tell, I bought the second ever bass he has sold. Within 12 hours of him posting the ads I found it and it looked like a combination of Warwick and Alembic and for $600, I had to give it a go.
It arrives in one piece and I was floored as soon as I got it in my hands. The body is solid Walnut with really cool grain and color variation and the neck is made out of solid flamed(!!) purpleheart.
The action was set at 1.5 millimeters and had no fret buzz, the neck felt exactly like a vintage Alembic and every part of this bass feels like any of the best hand crafted basses out there. It even has all gotoh hardware and a countersunk bridge.
The playability is as good as it gets, it balances very well and have enough weight to resonate well feel solid yet but too heavy to be an issue.
As far as sound goes, I'm not an EMG guy and this bass has them...but... With a little tone roll off, it cuts through a mix and has as much grit or piano like tone as you could want.
Just wanted to share some really cool work being done by a new luthier with affordable prices and as good of a build as you'll get anywhere.
