Double Bass Walter Woods Sells for Filthy Money

2500 bucks. Alot of money, but every time I plug into mine, it proves to be worth it. since it is the only amp of it's kind (Hi-Power) I've owned or played through that sounds great from start to finish, be it one note, or entire gig.

The Crown/Demeter/dbx rig I have sounds great too and is rewarding, but it weighs 50lbs or so, and is alot fussier. Same with the good old 90lb widow-maker I used to have, the all tube Ampeg SVT.

I've had to make some sacrifices to obtain all three of the amps here.

My guess is that whoever bought the Woods on evilbay just had to "have it now", and didn't want to get in line with the others who are waiting for theirs. Gear craze. Lets hope that this doesn't drive prices for used Woods amps up even higher.

Phil, I couldn't agree more. I've been keeping up on these ebay Walter Woods sales and I can't believe that the purchaser didn't call Walter first!
My experiences with him have always been really pleasant and it's never taken me more than 3 months to get a new amplifier from him. Some people just gotta have it NOW and I guess that's their call.

Sometimes it takes that long to get him on the phone but I agree. Buy from the source, get a warranty and give the money to Walter.

Three months, maybe less, that's how long it took to get mine. And my experience has been that Walter is a very nice guy. Down to earth, as well as business.

There are alot of high power light wieght amps on the market now for alot less then a walter woods. Ai, Iamp, Markbass, Epifani, Thunderfunk, etc. Now I know that are not as highly regarded as a WW but they're all around half of what a WW would cost or less. I'm sure you can come close to the sound of a WW maybe not exactly but close enough that no one would know. I'm not trying to sway anyone away from buying a WW I'm still trying to get the cash together to get one, But there is other options. And +1 one hoping that the used pricing on WW don't get higher by this.

Afternoon all,

If you think he price paid for this Walter Woods amp is crazy, look at what has been happening in the mandolin world lately.

A few years back, a Gilchrist F-styled mandolin could be bought for the unheard of price of $8000-$10,000. Within about 3 years of that same time frame, used ones in mint condition were bringing $20,000 or more.

It took a while to get a new mandolin from Gilchrist, but at that time, you could turn around and sell it for nearly twice what you had paid for it.

Check the prices of them today...

I was gonna mention mandos too! Monteleone and Dudenbostel have become the same way. I have a Summit Artist and while it's not in the same league as, say a Gilchrist, it also has appreciated in value since I got it in 2000. It hasn't appreciated as much as the others but it has gone up nonetheless.
