Anyone know if Walter Woods is still around/alive? I've owned his StereoCoustic 1000w amp since 12/2002, have had him work on it several times over the years. In the past I've either called him or mailed him care packages from Hawaii where I live, to touch bases with him. Would like him to go over my amp one last time before he retires for good, so, I sent him a package of Hawaiian goodies and a letter asking him if he wouldn't mind going through my amp one last time, and would pay any repair price he felt his time was worth. Been almost two weeks now, no response, so I called his phone number yesterday, only to find it was out of service.I know he had been reluctant over the past couple of years to work on his amps, but he and I had always gotten along well over the phone, with him at times helping me diagnose, and work on the amp itself.
If he's stopped servicing/building his amps for good, it's a sad day for us Woods amp owners, as no one out there can repair his amps as far as I know, with part of the problem being the specialty parts he developed over the years that just aren't available in the parts market. I've gotten a lot of mileage and gigs out of my beloved amp, and my money's worth, which back in 2002 cost me $2215. His amps started the whole small, yet powerful amp market over the years, and owning his amp was like having the Rolls Royce of portable Class-D power amps...
Even if he's no longer repairing or building his legendary little red power amps, I hope he's alive and well (he's in his mid-80's at this point), and enjoying his retirement in the Palm Springs area.. with that said, Aloha and Mahalo Walter, for your fantastic 1000watt amp, that I'm proud to own, and always enjoy the amazing sound it produces for me...
