Wanna change my Tobias pre amp.....

I have a Tobias. I think its the Toby 6 string. It seems the pre amp was changed. Lord only knows what's in there or who did the work. One of the knobs isn't even doing anything:scowl:

I want to put in something really nice. I have EMG pickups in currently and may change to Barts soon. Should I change the pick ups first or change the pre and see if i'm happy with the EMGs??

If I change the pre, what would go good with a 4 knobs / 2 knobs are stacked set up??

Those are EMG knobs, so I'd say it's an EMG BQC preamp. EMG make decent preamps. If you change the blend control to 250K or 500K you can use it with passive pickups.

I've used EMG BTC preamps for many years, and just recently stopped using them.

It should be bass/treble on one stack, and mid gain/mid frequency on the other stack. Then you should have either two volumes or volume and blend.

Thanks for the info!!! The bass/treble stack works fine. But on the other stack, the bottom one does nothing. It's the far third stack. Know which one I'm refering to?

Turn the top knob up to boost the mids, and then try the bottom knob. It should sweep the frequency of the midrange boost. The top knob is boost and cut. If you have the top knob at the center detent (flat), then the bottom knob wont do anything.
