So I bought a SWR workingpro rig that included a 200 watt 8ohm 2x10 cab. Took the speakers out to see why the cones look different from each other. turns out that 1 is a 16 ohm, which I believe is the original to the cab, and the other is an 8ohm Legend. I'd like to replace the speakers, but can not find any 16 ohm 10's to use (except some celestions offered by avatar, which I am not interested in). Because I wish to remain at 8ohms, the only solution I can think of is to wire the cab series and pick up two 4ohm drivers. Eventually I will upgrade to a higher efficiency/power handling cab, but at this time the 2x10 along with a 1x15 is what I'm working with. Can anyone point me to an applicable thread/website, or offer any instruction or advice? I have looked at schematics and wiring diagrams, which look pretty simple, but I'm not sure if its just a matter of putting electrical tape on the +/- leads that I will not use? ive tried searching here also, but cannot find anything related to converting an cab from parallel to series. Wiring two drivers in series goes like this:
The positive terminal on the input panel goes to the positive terminal of the first speaker.
The negative terminal of the first speaker goes to the positive terminal of the second speaker.
The negative terminal of the second speaker goes to the negative terminal on the input panel.
Positive should be red and/or marked with a +.
Negative should be black and/or marked with a -.
The positive terminal on the input panel goes to the positive terminal of the first speaker.
The negative terminal of the first speaker goes to the positive terminal of the second speaker.
The negative terminal of the second speaker goes to the negative terminal on the input panel.
Positive should be red and/or marked with a +.

You could just use one input jack, sure. Or you could wire them to each other for daisy chaining cabinets together. + to +, - to -.

Yup thats what you want to do. Speakers in series wired to one jack +to+ and - to - then jumper in parallel to the other jack +to+ - to -
Guys, I can't think of a better way to wake up! Thanks for the replies and advice, I really appreciate it. Because these are my only cabs, I think I'm going to bite the bullet and grab the factory replacements; saves me the risk. In addition, the 2x10 and 1x15 are rated for 200w each, but I can replace all 3 speakers with SWR parts from this distributer and come out with 750w. Gets me much closer to the 900w @ 4 ohms that my Shuttle 9.2 will do. I'm excited to hear the difference in sound due to matching impedance in the 2x10 especially. According to the math, running those cabs gave my amp an impedance 3.1! I'm lucky I didn't do any damage. I am even more lucky that y'all took the time to look out for a fellow musician.
