My suggestion would be to stay passive and use a vol/blend/tone. Three knobs, no switches.

What's everyone's fav pickup maker these days?

One other question - will the brass nut solve the single string bridge grounding issue? In other words, can I get away with only grounding one bridge and have the ground carry through the nut to the three other strings?

Personally, I'd want to go with Fender reissue PU's. Passive. That thing just wouldn't be right active.

Leave it "virgin" and use your amp... that's what I prefer.....

+1 on the Nordstrand pickups and +1 on the leaving it virgin.
You can always add pots later. Plus it will be loud, fat and clear. Its hard to back to pots after you take them out.
