Lonny, that bass turned out amazing. I'm hoping my Warmoth parts are here next week so I can get started.

The strings are red (DR Red Devils) and I will probably swap them out for my standard-colored DR Low Riders or Hi-Beams in the next few weeks. Guitar Denter had 4-string Red Devil sets cheap and I thought I'd give them a try since I'm normally after more expensive 5-string sets.

Thanks! I'm extremely pleased with the bubinga but the biggest pleasant surprise with the woods has been the the mahogany core under the lamination. A beautiful golden color that looks unlike anything I have seen from a tree!

Turned out great... I just can´t stand the pink strings. Guess you´ll kill them instantly? I always do when i get a new bass....

If I get it, I'll probably have to settle on fixing the mechanical and electrical issues before I get to the finish... but then again, I have the kitchen table all to myself for a month, I might just be able to squeeze in some major work!

Thanks for the compliment. I am quite pleased with the finished product. Unfortunately, I have yet to take a picture of the bass that does justice to the figuring and coloration of the bubinga and mahogany. A lot of depth in the flame and the colors seem to alternate between gold, brown, red and orange tones.
In answer to your question, the bass has about 10-15 coats of natural (untinted) Watco Danish oil applied to the body, and then polyurethane (also untinted) over that. Both finishes have a certain ambering effect, but the product of handrubbing in so many layers really seemed to make the grains pop very dynamically. As you can see from the progress shots, the bass gets progressively more and more figured as more coats are applied - well worth the time spent.
