There are five nice Gecko necks in the Showcase now with dark fingerboards but no gecko inlays.

Total costs for me have been around $1300 for each Gecko, for those with custom-ordered bodies or necks.

Mine are all the Gecko 5 "medium" size, so they have wide (19mm) string spacing at the bridge, but a Jazz-like string spacing at the nut. I haven't tried the "wide" size yet.

I have still one and the first posted on Warmoths website...
5 string w/Figured Koa top on Walnut body. Neck is the medium w/Pao Farro fretboard. First hard case I used was a SKB double rifle case, thing was a beast. After several calls to the Warmoth owner it seemed he understood our plight and had one of the case manufacturers build him a gecko hard case to spec. Immediately bought one and sold the SKB.

I'll get a new picture to post when I have some time.
Old pics are still up on their website but they compressed a collage of photos so out it's out of scale.

Would like to know if any one out there has the small neck version and how they like it. I don't play in a band any more and each time I take it out these days the neck seems too wide for me.

I remember that one well. It was one of the inspirations for me to build my first one in 2001.

This was my first Gecko: Invalid Link Removed

Between the time I purchased the body and the bridge, the Kahler bridge had become unavailable, so I milled a brass plate to go under the Hipshot. I eventually baked a flat black paint onto the brass and put a black aluminum Hipshot B-style bridge on it. That worked much better for me tonally.

I eventually put the fretted neck on the Walnut body and the fretless neck on the maple/alder body and that turned out to be the right combination for both basses. I REALLY miss that last version of the fretless. A friend of mine in Washington has it now and uses it on sessions. I believe the first session he used it on was with Vinnie Colaiuta playing drums.

Wow, never would have expected to inspire any one. Nice to hear. I like the maple on your current project. Looks like fun.

The need came from the band at the time tuning down to B. Guitar player had a strange B tuning. I was fed up with my Ibanez 34" trying to make it tonally correct tuned down that far...

It was a fun build. Would like to do another but now looking into short scales like Rics and such. If the B is needed I can pull this beast out.
I too bought just after the Khaler became un available but have been so impressed by the hipshot I'm not sure it matters.

If I build another though I'd like to go with individual string through saddles and the small neck this round.

Only one stage mishap with the hipshot... We were just about to start our set I had tuned and went for a couple waters. Came back and the B had popped out of the bridge... Luckily it was not broken and was a fluke.. But it's always a rush when the vocalist is telling the crowd, "one moment please we are having technical difficulties."

The one saving grace was were were opening for a short lived band with Jean Baudin, Element of Surprise. He was an nice guy with passion for multi strings for sure as he was talking about his pack man bass at the time.

Body: Light Swamp ash body w/ Sunset Orange Finish
Neck: Wenge Neck, Ebony Fretboard, Rosewood Gecko Inlay Pickups: Bartolini P2 CB pickups
Preamp: Bartolini NTMB. Voume(Pull passive)/Balance/Mid(push/pull, 400hz/800hz)/Stacked Bass,treble/Coil tab switch
Hardware: Gotoh tuners, Takeuchi Bridge(String Through), schaller strap locks

Plays like a dream and sounds amazing. Seriously has me wondering if I need to keep my Lakland 5'er.

Best trade I've ever made. So can I join?:D

Does anyone know the WIDEST spacing one could get on a 6-string Gecko?

The main thing that has kept me away from a Gecko 6 for the past decade+ is the spacing. I finally got used to 17mm on my G&L and Spector basses, but I'm still a 19mm guy at heart and really want a 6 with 17.5 or even 18mm. I realize that's not gonna happen on a Gecko, but how about 17mm?

Sure, I *can* play 16.5mm just fine, but it's not about being able to - it's about wanting to. The 17.5mm on my former EBMM SR5 and on my G&L (modified to get that) is just about perfect for what I want to do with it. When I'm playing more complicated music, I want more space.

In reality, what I really want is probably not a Gecko, but the Gecko neck might be a good platform to start with. Or maybe not. Just exploring ideas.

I ordered my Gecko5 wide in April 2007 and it was supposed to be ready by July 2007 but Warmoth made a mistake and painted the original neck a different color than they painted the body. I didn't receive it until October 2007 but I'm happy with it. I finished it with Gotoh tuners, an ABM bridge, originally it had Barts but now Bill Lawrence/Wylde and an OBP-3 with a passive tone option. I also bought wooden knobs to keep the weight down. Dan at Warmoth took the pics to show me the progress after having me wait so long. Swamp Ash, Maple Neck, Maple Fretboard

Very nice! Did you specify custom placement for the P+J pickups, or is that the standard?
