The bass that all the hardware is from has a 80mm broad neck at the 24 fret and the gecko 6 is 84mm so I hoped it would do better on the gecko neck. And yes, on the current bass it’s a bit on the borderline in the upper register.

Hi all, I’m looking to build a Gecko small body and was hoping to put a split P pickup on there. It doesn’t look like a split P is an option on the Warmoth website. Maybe there isn’t room. Is the only option to do a Bartolini MM that allows a split P type configuration?

A long time ago, I did purchase a Gecko body that had a split-P pickup route. Although it's not commonly chosen, it should still be possible to do this. You can call Warmoth or send them an e-mail.

I know this is a really late reply, but why did you go for the sweet spot over the regular neck position? I'm saving up to build a gecko small with walnut body, wenge neck, macassar ebony or ziricote fingerboard (undecided), and a pair of bartolini singularities with passive electronics.

I play a Roscoe fretless with the pickups in similar positions for the Army and love tones I get from that bass . I wanted to emulate that as much as possible with my Gecko. Warmoth did a great job meeting my desires. I still love it

Hey I realize this was posted WAYY LONG ago..!! However If you’re still a TB member I’m in the process of nailing down the last details on a Warmoth Body + Neck purchase. Your’s pictured here is so similar in concept I had to ask how it all came together in the end? Were you happy? Did you feel the price & cost of choosing your own tuners/bridge/hardware/pickups & electronics etc was worth it??
How about any problems with the assembly or anything unexpected that may have
landed it on a tech’s bench.. Ie; cutting/polishing the nut, Leveling’ crowing polishing frets, issues with neck pocket depth/alignment (this particular one gives me nightmares!)??

I’m inching closer to a long-time ambition.

I want in the club!!!

I’ve been eyeing a Gecko 5 for years.

I was always under the impression that it would be the “wide” model.

As I get much closer to pulling the trigger, I’ve gotten out the caliper and really examined my current stock.

I’ve got a pair of Laklands (55-94 and Skyline 55-60). I’m comfortable with them.

Narrow at the nut, wide at the bridge.

The “wide” spacing at the nut would be the same as my Stingray 4H, but with an added string.
I’m beginning to feel that that only works on a four string.

My dilemma is as follows:

Get a spec-ed out bass that feels the same as some of my others, or risk disappointment for a bit of “strange”?

Save me from myself!

On a 5 string I prefer 18mm. I went with the medium width Gecko neck but installed a 18mm Hip Shot bridge. Works great. I could widen the spacing to 18.5-19mm but it feels great as is.
19mm in a 5 or 6 just feels too wide to me.

Better late than never…
After weeks of waiting, almost as long measuring, drilling, oiling, waxing… it’s almost done!
Sadly, two of the neck screws are too short.
As soon as I get the replacements, I’ll string it up, set it up, and realize a decades-old dream!

Too late to get a number???

I don't believe that they give numbers but you're officially in with that PIC!
