Warmoth necks

Easy, there Tiger. I have two Warmoth necks, and I have not had to modify any of the 5 or 6 bodies (Fender) that I have used them with.

Have you owned any Warmoth necks? Have you experienced neck dive? If not, why perpetuate these opinions as "Fact"?

I have had neck dive with my Warmoth necks with certain bodies and not with others. Is neck dive a universal truth? No. And that's a fact.

And yes I have two Warmoth necks.
And I said SOME.

I don't blame Warmoth for these FACTS I blame hobbyists, who don't follow the instructions that come with the neck [or atleast use to.

Fact: Warmoth necks tend to have bigger heel sizes then some standard rout sizes, for fender type necks.

Fact: People without wood working experience buy and use Dremel tools and try to resize neck pockets to fit Warmoth necks.

Fact: they then sell their botched jobs on e-bay, so you might get a body that has had it's neck pocket enlarged and then you must add wood and or shims to make any other neck fit, even if they did a proper job on the routing.

Let's take a look at your facts.

Warmoth builds strictly to Fender USA specs. You can see those specs right here: Invalid Link Removed. Warmoth holds to strict quality control standards that are required by the Fender license agreement.

Problems arise with import instruments that may not hold to tight quality control standards. This is more commonly found in MIM or made in China or Indonesia models. This is where you will find under or over sized neck pockets and customers making modifications.

The only place you will find necks or bodies failing quality control is in the sawdust pile and woodbin. They are NOT sold on eBay. I would very much like to see your evidence for this fact!

Not for nothing but I find that the neck heel/neck pocket fit on raw Warmoth necks and bodies can sometimes be too tight leaving little or no space for a hardcoat finish on the neck heel.

I think he meant that the people who buy Warmoth products and botch them are the ones selling on ebay, not Warmoth.

I have 2 Warmoth necks and they are well built, as heavy as my MIA Fender necks, and no neck dive whatsoever. I suspect the rumors of heavy and neck dive are from people who either don't know what they are doing, never used a Warmoth neck and like to just run their mouths, or had the one-off, super heavy, exotic oily woods, or use super heavy tuners.
You see this over and over on forums: one product gets popular, everybody buys a ton of them, then something else comes out and people bad mouth the previous favorite. I saw that shift when people started using USAG necks instead of Warmoth. Or when the ultrallight amps came out, suddenly ampegs and tube amp sucked!!
The P neck that I have from Warmoth is not much thicker than my MIA Jazz, and that's comparing a P to a J!

now that is true, but I like it this way, no movement when the 2 are fitted together, I usually sand both sides of the neck with some 220 grit sandpaper on a block, until a snug fit. I don't touch the neck pocket, but YMMV

I have a MIJ right now on my bench that I'm having to add shims [ adds up to 1mm], that someone Dremeled out the neck rout, came off ebay, The neck I am using is dead on in it's measurements. as I said some, there are a lot of fenders out there, as well as copies. I have two 70's fenders where there are gaps in the pockets, so if the original necks don't even fit exactly..........

I know it isn't your companies problem in any way but I hate having to add wood, particualarly when I bet the neck would have fit with a little light sanding instead of grinding; my guess this is way it body was sold in the first place

And as I said I've never had a problem with your necks, just people with tools.

Yup, that's what I wound up doing.

To be honest I don't think there's any way around it to get a tight fit, but IME a tight neck/neck pocket fit isn't necessary other than for aesthetics.

I have an old Squier Jazz that has a large gap between the neck and the pocket, well it creaks when you tune it, or grab it by the neck. I hate that sound, never got around to shim it though

Sounds like the neck screws aren't tight enough.

tight as it can be without stripping the threads.

Ironically you won't really know that until you strip the threads.

You can try putting a sandpaper shim in the bottom of the neck pocket.

Well, my Warmoth Bubinga/Ebony fretless neck arrived yesterday. I must say that the fit was beautiful on the MIM Fender Jazz. The workmanship is wonderful. I had them install a corian nut and it's great. The neck is not chunky at all. It's a beautiful, fast playing neck. And . . . NO NECK DIVE!!! NONE. NADA!!
