One thing I noticed after seeing some live pictures is I really need to polish it..
Can anyone recommend a good polish?

Polish it if you must...I think it looks fine. I simply use a polishing cloth. If it's really grungy I will use a little windex. Poly finishes really don't need anything more than that. My basses usually don't see a good wipe-down for a good month or two between. I like 'em to look played.

I was the same way with my basses til I got this one, now that I've got such a nice looking top I don't like seeing all those finger prints on it.

I have 3 warmoths, but only one is a bass. One strat, one tele, one J bass (strangely, no pics, will have to snap a few tonight).

I just want to say, my new Warmoth Dinky P made me smile at my own playing for the first time, in a long time! My first bass with flats in years too! The wenge neck feels amazing, the La Bella Low Tension Flexible Flats are my JAM, and I've got the Aggie Hot P wired to a volume knob only. No knobs to fiddle with... I gotta move my hands around for tone shaping now!

Stevie's "Sir Duke" just bumped around my music room as I smiled and dug into one of the finest P-basses I've ever played. Warmoth = Fit and finish.

Parts on the way for the P-Bass project! I've always coveted Billy Sheehan's wife... not for the neck 'bucker (never tried one, so no opinion) but for the Tele headstock on split-coil body look. This one will be lighter than the Jazz a page back, as the neck (unfinished, will use nitro) has graphite reinforcement and the body lists at 4 lbs. 9 oz. Both were reduced in price- neck was on sale and the body has a finish flaw somewhere on the upper horn. I can't see it in the photos, but I'm gonna live with it, whatever it is. Res-O-Lite reverse tuners and vintage threaded-saddle bridge are headed this way as well...







Anybody here know if a standard Fender gold ano pg will fit Warmoth bodies?

I'll eventually be getting a neck to replace the fretless one on my recently acquired MIJ jazz.

What's the deal with the 6100 frets? Are they like stringray frets? Is that where that classic stingray clack comes from? Do they make setting low action difficult?

Also, I remember reading somewhere that the steel frets sometimes need some work before the new neck is ready for action. Is that true?

Most frets need some work before the bass leaves the plant, whether the plant's in Corona or Indonesia. My experience (seven Warmoth necks) is that you'll be able to get lower than factory action without it, but if you really want it perfect, a pro setup is the way to go no matter what kind of bass it is. The difference is that the boutique luthiers do this before they let the bass leave their workshop, because you're buying a complete instrument from them. No separate component manufacturer should be held responsible for it.

Hi guys! I have a small question, I initially made a thread and was told to ask here instead so I am hoping maybe some of you could help me out.....

What neck option from Warmth would feel similar to the Fender C shaped Precision neck? Like the one on the 60th anniversary to be super specific. I love the feel of that neck and would like to "recreate" it on a build I'm planning.


Fender 60th anniversary neck specs:

• C-shape maple neck with modern 9-1/2" radius

• Nut width: 1.625" and finished with lacquer

My second Warmoth here. Bocote on ash, ebony on rosewood. Babicz, Hipshot, Nordstrand and the new Audere preamp with the hum cancellation phantom coils (which works GREAT).

Holy Smokes! Now that is what this thread is all about! I love a good traditional build, but this really showcases what you can do by pushing the envelope a bit. Very nice.

Well this is a real fun thread!
Here's mine:

It's a rescue bass.
I bought it off another bassist who tried and failed on his first build. I actually got it to just tinker with but when I got it home I realised it was simply put together a bit rough. After an hour of tweaking I adjusted the neck, raised the pickups, fixed the action and intonation and managed to get a noise out of it. WOW! Talk about fat and sexy! The bridge is a bit crooked but its so adjustable it still works perfectly.

The wiring was abysmal with a stacked vol/vol that looked like it was bashed with a hammer and then dipped in solder. I hacked at the body with a drill so I could rewire it jazz style with cts pots, vintage cloth wiring and a paper and oil tone cap from a russian tank then I lined the cavity with copper shielding, added a plain black pickguard from an old Fender that I roughed up with steel wool for a satin look and presto - The beast emerges!

Its an alder body, lined, fretless ebony/maple neck, Hipshot A Style Bridge (Thru body but i never go thru-body), Seymour Duncan Hot Pickups and Schaller Machine heads...
It was an impulse purchase that has quickly become my favorite bass. The action is just right so I can get that mwah double bass sound yet still really punchy to get a big funky blues sound. Ive used it for everything from funk, blues and soul right to death metal and rock. It's effing useless for slap bu thats cool. It's such a good bass that Im gonna get a full Warmoth Jazz Bass. Black burst, flame maple neck.... it's never gonna be worth what Im gonna spend on it but it'll be one that I NEVER sell..

Here's a clip of a gig when I had just got it working before I redid the pots etc. I can detect a slight difference with the rewire in that it has more options tonally but it's not a lot different...

I decided I couldn't live without a V control . It was wired direct to output jack . I just threw in a 500k , no cap direct to output and it's fantastic .

Build update:

Neck and body showed up a couple weeks ago. The blemish doesn't show up on camera- it's a pinhead-sized paint blotch that the strap button will cover, and some grit in the rout for the truss adjustment (which you can see). I was kinda worried when I realized that Warmoth had posted a stock photo of a Vintage White P body, not the one I'd actually paid for. Here's some shots of the body and neck (I'm in the process of finishing the neck, not done as of the photos). Not sure yet on the pups and guard. I'm thinking about a Delano PMVC 4 FE/M2 in white with a white pg. thoughts?

Love the functionality, sound, flexibility and price of the Audere preamps but I find the "rats nest" wiring they usually create undesirable. There's not much you can do about it, its just the way the Audere preamps are designed, in fact Doner's looks even better than the few I've done. I much prefer the East preamp flat ribbon wire method and really wish Audere would adopt it. Then all would be perfect - rainbows and skittles for everyone!

BTW - not ragging on your bass! Looks great and I bet sounds killer!

Just pulled the trigger on a bunch of parts!
Chambered swamp ash jazz, flame maple neck with abalone inlays, Seymour Duncan Hot pups, lite tuners, all black... seeeeeeexy.
