Wow, that bass sure has a lot going on!
My immediate reaction was that fretless+trem would be redundant, but that's obviously not the case as you made the effort to make one. Care to say something about how that combination works out for you?

Looking into another body from Warmoth to attach a fretted Status Precision sized neck. Anyone bought one of their Chambered bodies? They have a few nice looking ones in stock, flame maple over Korina.

I really love the combination, all the different methods of expression was just what I was looking for. I can see how alot of people would think it is redundant, I guess it just depends on what kind of player you are. For more lead stuff, mixing up slides and the trem is alot of fun, both have a different sound to them and one thing you can't do with a fretless is dive bomb. I don't over do it with dive bombs (or try not to atleast), if you pick the right moment in a song, dive bombing thru a 8x10 just moves so much air, you feel it in your gut. The trem became part of my style on my fretted bass, when I switched over to fretless I really missed it but I was commited to stay fretless. I love the sound of steel strings on a ebony fretboard so I knew at some point I'd have to combine the two or atleast make a attempt at it and I couldn't be happier with the outcome. Its nice having a bass thats unique to me aswell, I love the Yamaha Attitude basses and this bass does have alot of that bass in it with the stereo outputs but it feels liberating not having someone elses name attached to it.
Just got a tracking notice on this badboy! One more week and my custom neck and showcase body will be assembled.Just placed an order for my first Warmoth build! Took advantage of the WarPaint sale and got a KILLER Dinky P in the EXACT configuration I wanted! And a (custom) bound and blocked Wenge / Pau Ferro slim taper neck! Great stuff in here, what made you guys decide on Warmoth over the other companies available?
Cuz I can have it MY WAY! P-bass neck in wenge with thin option. Carbon rods for lightweight reinforcement of the thinner neck. Pau Ferro board.
Custom routes and such allowed me to design a Dinky-p with 1 (stacked) knob and side input for a clean look. And I've got an Aguilar Hot P pickup and Babicz bridge that will create a bass that meets all my wants. The showcase body (in ash) also happened to have a contoured heel, bridge holes were Babicz compatible, and it's rear routed, giving a P-bass player the "pickguardless" option.
No guard. 1 stacked knob. 1 P pickup. Wenge neck.
Warmoth.*dont get me started on custom finishes! Options for people with 'refined' tastes.
I prefer their body shape/contours and like picking wood and weight. While they make excellent necks I don't really care for them. Personal preference I guess.
I've been doing some research for a while now, and I decided I want a Warmoth Fretless Dinky Jazz bass. I decided I wanted a Black Korina body with a zebra wood top. I really like the zebra wood because it reminds me a little of what inspired me to get a Jazz bass, the Fender sandblasted Jazz. Anyway, my real question is what Warmoth finish would look best on zebra wood? The most common finish I have seen on it is clear gloss? What does that look like in person? Is it really kind of golden a golden color? I have also seen some less common color ideas like red and blue. Would the be blue to dark so that the stripes won't stand out? Sorry for all the questions, but this is my first time I've considered using Warmoth, as well as a custom bass in general, so I have a lot of them.
My Warmoth PJP just cost me a gig...I auditioned for a SRV Tribute act, and it came down to me and another guy. They gave the gig to the other guy cause "he has a Fender bass"! I am not really sore about it or anything...just thought it was a good opportunity to repost a pic of one of my main players.
The irony is, the guitar player played a Tele at the audition! Although he is a great player, I was less than impressed at the accuracy of the SRV vibe. I guess he doesn't get that for some folks the audition process is a two way street.

I have to report back on my Warmoth quest. It ended in disappointment unfortunately. Thankfully they have a solid return policy and stood behind it.
The build quality was fine in most cases, but there was something considerably off aesthetically about both the body and the neck, both of which were at the upper end of the price spectrum. Long story short is that I couldn't believe they would turn out what was essentially ugly product for both a $600+ body and a $600+ neck.
Examples: the quilted maple they selected for the body had grain that looked like a sliced open onion right in the middle of the body. The blue bass I ordered had a distinct solid purple outline. The access notch for the truss adjust had an unpainted white-ish stripe between the black paint filling the cavity and the blue surface - even after I had spoken with them on the phone and they assured my that the cavity would be the same color as the body and not black. The neck had pearloid blocks that were supposed to be white, but instead appeared very dark grey with smoky black lines throughout that I've never before seen on white pearloid. Overall, absolutely no discretion applied to coloring and no thought to using really low quality or ugly components (facings and pearloid material)
I'm sure you will all be seeing these on their website in a couple of weeks, and I'm not sure how they will show in pictures. I was just completely disappointed in something that was months in the making. Sadly, I have all the parts I need to make a bass that I'd really like to have except the neck and body, and don't quite know where to go from here except to shelve the idea for a little while until I can work up the will to find another source.

Actually I do have a picture of the body. While you can't tell in the pic how purple the body outline is, you can see the grain pattern that I just would have never allowed if it was my job.
I've used tons of Warmoth stuff in the past, and it's always met or exceeded Fender MIA standards IMO.
In the case of the bass below, only the neck is Warmoth. The rest is Fender. I see no reason not to consider Fender when searching for various parts- they're as available on eBay as anything else.
