It's definitely a questionable practice, and the logo should be removed if the person decides to sell the bass, otherwise they risk coming across as hawking a counterfeit.
Some folks just have to see that cursive F logo for some reason. I think it's mostly ego and remnant of a bygone era when Fender was the bass and you'd get laughed off the gig if you showed up with some sort of copy.
I agree with you that I wouldn't give a different company credit for something they weren't involved in. Especially Fender, whose offerings have been incremental iterations on the same ideas for 70 years and whose quality control has been awful for the past 10 years at least.
Somewhat correct - but don't get me wrong. I still have my 71 P bass and it is the best out there. If it were not for arthritis in my left hand, I world still prefer a Fender "P".
But for me the 30's are the deal and this Warmoth is out in front for "J" basses. I guess to each his own, but I was wondering why people did that. Actually, as already said - if I build a Warmoth build - maybe I should make my own logo since I actually am the builder.
Again, just ranting and I mean no disrespect to anyone here.
In fairness to Fender, Warmoth produces the FSO bodies and necks under license from Fender. The original designs were Fender's. So Fender has quite a lot to do with that Warmoth bass. And I say that as not a big fan of Fender.
But I'm not defending the practice of putting a Fender decal on a Warmoth bass. At all.
When I wanted a Fender logo on my Warmoth, I just got a fender neck and put it on a Warmoth body.

But if you make a bass (Warmoth or other) that looks like a Fender and put a Fender logo "waterslide" on the headstock - you cannot sell it here on Talb Bass. If they find out, they will delete your post because it is a "Fake Fender".
To me - a Warmoth build with a Fender waterslide is probably a better made bass than a Fender anyway. . . . Now that is something to think about.

Hi all. Here’s a bass I made that started with a Warmoth body and neck. I use raw US made necks and bodies from several suppliers, and the Warmoth necks (although very expensive at times) are my favorite.

Better AND likely cheaper. Once I discovered Warmoth I realised I would never buy a new Fender again.
Fender American Performer neck, Warmoth chambered ash body, roasted ash cap with black differentiation line. Fender ‘63 vintage reissue pickup with 250k CTS pots and 047 orange drop cap. TI flats. The neck is very stable and very comfortable to play.
I love my American Performer necks...graphic rods help stability..
My Warmoth is getting a new set of EMG Jazz V pickups and a matching preamp.

Here's my half-Warmoth reimagining of the Gibson Les Paul "Triumph" bass. The neck is Warmoth, the body by a luthier here in Canada.
