i am thinking about having Warmoth make a medium scale neck for it ... as I get older, my fingers get crampier on short scales and feel better on long ones ... i know that's the reverse of what usually happens to people, so i dunno, maybe my technique just got better
Remind me - will Warmoth do different pickup routings in the mid-position on top-routed instruments if you call and ask them, or did they stop offering that option? Thinking about a pair of EMG35s on either a P or Jag body along with the paired pickguard but I want to make sure that's an option.
Go on their website; you can model different pickups in different positions to a degree (you can’t get like the Attitude mod on a P bass for example) and it’ll show you what it looks like to a degree.
here’s a pic of a p body with No pickguard and a single coil pickup in the neck and a mm in the bridge position
My experience has been that they will do custom pickup routes, but they'll charge extra for it. The last time I had them do it, it was an additional $45 per custom route. That was a few years ago. They may have bumped the price, or they may have stopped doing it. If you're willing to pay the extra, it's worth a phone call to find out.

How long did it take to get that custom order body? I just made a warmoth order today... custom roasted maple neck (no finish) and slightly custom body (with gloss metallic lacquer)... they're quoting 16-17 weeks til it's ready to ship...

Last year they told me they could do "reverse-P on special order... and I just got a special "off-menu" kahler trem route on my newest order for just ten bux. (makes the item unreturnable, but I don't plan on returning it!)
Yes, the body was made in Nova Scotia and the whole thing assembled and wired for pretty cheap all in. Excluding the pickups, the whole bass was about 1700 usd … and mine was complicated to wire. A body alone from Cody’s Guitars wouldn’t be super expensive and without a neck wouldn’t take long at all.
On the subject of short scales, for anyone on a budget, there is a great way to get a very high quality body to use with a Warmoth short scale neck: Get a classic USA Peavey, Patriot, Foundation, Fury, ect. They are a great value, and the 21 fret, 34" scale makes the body length just right. And the neck pockets are purportedly a good fit.

I'm ready to start down the Warmoth path and have a few questions about necks.
Does a wenge fretboard weigh considerably more than Indian rosewood?
Do stainless steel frets weigh considerably more than standard frets?

Wenge, on average, is slightly heavier than Indian rosewood. With a collection of fretboards made from each type of wood, there would likely be some wenge boards that were lighter than some of the rosewood.
Stainless steel frets are lighter than nickel frets.
Be sure to order graphite stiffening rods, and get ultra-light tuners.
Let's hear all the details about your build. I'm curious if the main concern is neck-dive, or weight.

An all-wenge neck is 6-8 ozs more than maple. I don't imagine a fretboard would add much weight, same with stainless frets. Getting a roasted neck could offset any weight gains.
+1 on the roasted neck. I also recommend unfinished if you are partial to satin over gloss.
The plan is for a P body. I haven't decided on the wood yet, but I do know that I want a clear coat.
