Warmoth Owners Club!!

I'm NOT the only one that puts a P neck on a Jazz!!!
Hi PeeeBass, it's great to know that you share my love for P necks on Jazz bodies!! :) We are in the minority, but we know how great the result is! :) To my ear, the larger neck gives a bit of a bigger tone, and I find it much more comfortable and stable than the thin J necks, even though I have smaller than average hands. I love it!! :)

My previous #1, the 3-pickup black jazz, started as a pair of unrelated showcase/thrift shop purchases. The black body had no pickup routes in it, so there it was, begging me to do something different with it. My mind's eye could see very clearly what it would eventually turn into, and some back-and-forth with the sales team gave me confidence that they could execute my vision exactly as I saw it. And they did!

I saw the neck on a different day. The bubinga/wenge combination was unusual, and the pattern of the wenge was irresistibly striking.

Very cool; did you or a tech do the routing, or did Warmoth do it?

I had Warmoth do it. I think they charged an extra $40 per custom pickup route at that time (up to $45 as of a few years ago). The bridge pickup was in the normal 60's position, so I didn't have to pay for that one. The other two pickups were routed exactly 2" edge-to-edge. That gave me what I felt was optimum spacing while leaving enough room for the neck.

I think I was quoted a similar price more recently but when I asked if they could do it with an unrouted Showcase body they said no, only on custom orders. Will have to check my email to see if I havd that information right.

On an unrouted showcase body, you should be able to get any of the routes that are in the menu. And I don't see any reason they wouldn't do custom routes on a showcase body. Once you specify the custom routes, it becomes a custom body. In fact, I had custom routes done on a different body, and it too was a showcase body. (That one had a custom ordered neck associated with it, though.)

I was mistaken, they never got back to me after I asked if it was available for showcase bodies. I merely asked what pricing was like, and it’s $65 for a single pickup, $95 for two in custom locations as of a couple months ago.

Went a little crazy this holiday season and picked up a couple P bodies from the showcase -

Notes: I did not think the back had all that interesting of grain features to it. So, for my slightly OCD brain I decided to just have it painted over black so there wouldn't be a mismatch with the top. Before you all throw stones at me, remember that Reverend uses white korina and they all get painted over. I wanted this one for the very nice top and the lightweight body, which is 4.63 lbs.

Electronics: EMG MMHZ pickup and a EMG BQC control preamp

Neck: KLOS Carbon Fiber Jazz Bass replacement (Ohhh yes, I am very much looking forward to having a neck from them). At $500 you should buy one too!

Excuse me for not taking a screen grab for this one, but to abolish my not-a-sin of painting over white korina, I waited out Warmoth until they dropped the price of a showcase chambered black korina P bass body way down until I thought if I don't get it now, someone else will. They had only the two left by the time I did and they both were sold within 24 hours.

I ordered it completely unfinished and I'm going to apply lots of coats of Tru Oil by hand until I've decided it looks good. Should be a great one to try this with as the grain is very nice looking. It will get a set of Fralin P pickups that I've had sitting around in the box for a year and it will be fully passive. Hardware, neck, etc, is all TBD.

Hey everyone, thanks to @Lucca I built my first Warmoth bass as a birthday present to myself. (Birthday isn't for a month, but I couldn't wait!) I did the neck and most of the hardware, electronics were already installed. I brought it over to a luthier for a set up afterwards.

Warmoth ash body
Fender Vintera '50s neck
Fralin stock wind pickups
Gotoh reverse wind tuners
Gotoh 201 bridge
Stew Mac knobs
LaBella 760FL strings

The goal was for the bass to get deep, low thump a la George Porter Jr and Paul Jackson. It's my #1 four string bass, love how it sounds and how comfortable it is.

It is very possible that I will order the Full-Build I’ve been hankering on about this Friday.
I’ve been on the fence with whether I want a Stingray-inspired or 70’s Jazz-inspired instrument as my “last hurrah”. I’ve flip-flopped quite a bit on the subject and I thought I settled on SR-inspiration. But I’ve gone out and tried a few SR’s and even a couple of Sterlings (the real ones), and although I dig their tone, I think I’ve outgrown it. There’s a reason why I sold my SR so many years ago around the time I’ve discovered the Jazz bass for myself…

Anyway, enough of my self-analysis…hopefully I can put this one to bed in a couple of days…

Also, the Vintera neck has a grain going from the second fret all the way down the neck to the second to last fret or so. Gives it a nice line of motion when paired with the ash grain too, to my eyes.
Had to go back and take a look.
It's like a golden wave running up the neck. Definitely a unique feature. Sweet.
