Here is my first Warmoth build!

Wenge/Ebony jazz neck, slim taper with graphite rods and SS 6230 vintage frets
Dinky roasted swamp ash jazz body with around 15 layers of tru oil
Hipshot ultra lite tuners, string tree and high mass bridge
EMG passive JVHZ (GZR Jazz) pickups
Ti Flats
Total weight= 8 lbs 10 oz

Looks fantastic! Congratulations on your build! The finish on that ash body looks incredible, and I think dinky J is their best looking body shape for a four string

Even to my ear as a lifelong devotee of AJ's playing, it sounds pretty convincing, so much so that I've ordered this to make this rather satisfying experiment permanent:

Great looking bass. Could I ask a slightly off topic question - those Schaller tuners....I'm assuming these have the 2 little positioning tabs on the back side of the baseplate that require small holes to be drilled into the headstock? Can I ask what is the process for lining this up on the back of a headstock? Does a template exist anywhere, or is there a manual way to do it?

the reason I ask is I have a set of similar tuners (they are "F" branded from an older USA Deluxe, but look nearly exactly the same with the black nylon encased gear). I have a neck incoming and need to understand how to drill the back of the headstock to accommodate.

When I ordered the short scale neck from Warmoth I picked the tuner holes for Schaller's so the two extra guide holes for the Schaller tuners were already there when the neck arrived. :thumbsup:

my luthier did it for me beautifully on one bass

I did it myself with no template.....Ok, but not perfect

Hello all.
I was wondering if you could indulge me with a few questions regarding Warmoth’s 32” scale necks? I’ve have prior experience with their 34s and loved them.

32s don’t have support beams which I know can help with stability and dead notes. So do 32s suffer from obvious dead spots like a fender neck can?
Is there a noticeable loss of sustain without the support beams?

How do the first 5 frets on the E string sound? Is there a decent fundamental to those notes or is it lackluster like stock fender short scales?

Is the fret work as good as it was a decade ago?

Do to and injury I am a new 32” scale convert but my current bass has some minor stock flaws that I didn’t have when I was playing my assembled Warmoth 34.
Things like a dead spot right on the C of the G string, an odd sounding 5th fret on the E string, and not being able to set my action like on my 34 Warmoth.
Also I really miss my padouk neck with mahogany body combo.

While I’m asking what’s the general consensus on fret wire size? I don’t remember what I had on my previous Warmoth but I think it was medium jumbo stainless steel.

OK, changed my mind.
I’m going to build a short scale 30” jazz bass. My PJ is good enough as is.

So as far as wood choices go I’m leaning on tilt back maple neck with ebony fingerboard w/ narrow tall ss frets and a Mahogany G4 body. Other stuff, Gotoh 201 bridge, Dimarzio relentless pups, 500k VV, 250k T w/.033 cap and series/parallel switch.

As far a strings, I’m going to experiment with the EB Cobalt Flatwounds.
I have the roundwound versions on my 32 PJ and they sound great.

I’m still on the fence whether I go padouk no finish or satin maple for the neck. On the fence as well for the body, Karina or mahogany.

I want to keep this bass small and light-ish so trying stay away from heavy woods like wenge or walnut.
Any opinions? Going to try and order really soon so items show up before the big temperature drop after summer. I live in Alaska and winter temps can be pretty brutal on wooden items while shipping.

Built a SSB Precision style, i always wanted a seafoam green bass, with maple and block inlays. Wish granted thanks to Warmoth! First full Warmoth build. I got a replacement neck last year for a full scale precision and the quality was so good i made it a goal this year to build a full bass from Warmoth.

SSB body Seafoam green Matte finish
Solid Matte Pickguard
Roasted Maple Neck with Block inlays
Stainless steel frets
Schaller Tuners
Hipshot B-Bridge and String retainer
Arcane 65 Pickups
CTS 250K Pot
Switchcraft jack
GHS Pressure wound strings

Still need to do the setup on it, but its lightweight, and feels great. No regrets!

I just ordered from Warmoth and it was never an option on the builder screen for the Ps and Js. Could email them. But from what I saw the fender style bodies come with them. I think you use to be able to do it on the fenders but not anymore. My last Warmoth build was over a decade ago so the details are a little fuzzy.

Well, it started out with the parts. P1080819.JPG A dinky Jazz bass and a Precision neck from Warmoth.
But the neck was too thick, so I shaved some off the back. P1190218.JPGP1190220.JPGP1190221.JPG P1190222.JPG , drilled the headstock holes after reshaping it and smoothed it all out. P1190224.JPG P1190231.JPG P1190232.JPG P1190233.JPG
This is the initial assembly, P1190229.JPG P1190228.JPG with some oddball parts I had around. Eventually I went with the plain body to match the P bass in the other picture.
The string spacing is narrow, 15mm at the bridge and 7mm at the nut.
...and that's how I did it. :thumbsup::)
