Did you route the pickups yourself or did Warmoth route the reverse P for you?

Great job, btw.

Warmoth will do it, just gotta call and ask since it isn’t on the online menu

They have two options for the neck pickup, reverse in the normal position, or reverse in the sklar/hoppos position where the bass side stays in the normal spot and they raise the treble side above it

This is great news. I was under the impression that they didn't do this.

Ok Warmoth friends, I have one of those "purely aesthetic" taste questions where I am nonetheless seeking your opinions and preferences. Do any of you have Goncalo Alves necks? If so, what colour hardware did you use?

I normally go for gold hardware, but the body of the bass will be orange, so gold will clash. And black with orange is a tad "halloweeney" for me. So on the body I'm doing a nickel bridge and white nobs.

But on the Goncalo neck? In your opinion, would it look weird to have black when the instrument is so bright and there is no black on the body? Would gold clash, given there is no gold on the body?

Anyone got pics of Goncalo necks?
Personally, I would never mix hardware finishes unless it was contrasting saddles on a bridge. But IMHO the bridge plate and tuners should match. I would also go with white nut to match white knobs.

I'd be tempted to go for the gold! Gold and orange can go together quite nicely IMHO.

I don't have a Goncalo Alves neck, but if you're looking for color options, you might consider Cosmo Black from Gotoh or Ruthenium from Schaller. That will give you a dark color for contrast, something besides Black.

(They make matching bridges and knobs, as well as a variety of tuner styles. I just grabbed those pages to show the colors.)

So I've lusted over the transparent red finish for years now. I have a MS Paint document from 4 years ago of a mahogany P body with a transparent red finish and mock ups of different necks and pickup types. A few months ago I worked up the courage to order just that, I asked them to pick a piece with some pronounced grain and he said don't worry about it.

I finally received it today and all I can say is HOLY CRAP. I am in awe of how gorgeous this is. It looks even better in person, the picture doesn't do it justice but take my word for it. I have a wenge fretless neck coming for it in the mail eventually, inspired by a red Warwick I had long ago. OMG

Very nice! I'm looking forward to pictures of the finished bass.

I have it together!!! It needs time for the neck to get used to string tension, and I will adjust the relief and set intonation. Preliminary play test is great tho! Tone is nice and Audere pre works well. Very pleased so far! Fairly lightweight too!
Played a bit more this morning….it’s incredible! Just plays effortlessly, solid deep crisp tone, and sustains for days! Intonation is spot on. I’m in love! 😍

Glad to hear that you're enjoying your Warmoth build, @Giff ! It looks great.

The last thing I need is another bass, but I just noticed this P body in the showcase that looks super nice. The price is more than I can spend right now so I think I'm safe... Unless I sell some stuff??? 😬 It's probably best if somebody else buys it soon to save me from myself 😂

To those of you who own necks with an extended fretboard, have you ever noticed any excessive noise from the frets that are on the extension? The 24 fret roasted flame maple neck that I picked up second hand for my deluxe jazz 5 a while back ago was noisy from the get-go. You could tap those two frets and they would sound like hollow aluminum (only way I can describe it) in comparison to the 22nd fret that was placed over the heal and sounded normal. I got this neck at a killer price (and it looks amazing) or I would have purchased a 22 fret to begin with. In addition to the clackity-clack, it also blocked access to the truss rod channel and required the neck to be removed to make an adjustment. I could tolerate that, but not the sound.

Anyways, the frets were inspected and were seated properly so far as I or my luthier/tech guy could tell. We're talking like master builder knows everything backwards and forward type of guy who does amazing work. He could build this entire bass from the ground up with ease. So my solution after conceding that this was just the nature having the extension was to have it removed. The transformation was seamless and impeccably done, so now it's just a 22 fret neck and you'd never even know. It solved the problem 100% and now I have access to the truss rod channel. Win-win!

Anyone else experience this phenomenon?

I haven’t, so far. But mine is a Warmoth-construction neck with truss rod access at the nut end. I wonder, how much space was there between the extension and the body? If it was just enough, perhaps when you tapped - it was actually making the extension tap the body? I can only guess it would have to be very little space, but could have been perfect for causing the noise.
