Warmoth Owners Club!!

Have you asked them? That seems like the sort of thing that's not programmed into their CNC, but they could probably do manually for an upcharge of $40 or $45 or so.
I have. I’m pretty local (I used to live about 5 miles away from their shop) - and the response I got wasn’t a hard no, but a “we haven’t had enough people ask for it, so we’re not intending on offering it as an option…”

The other thought I had was just sucking it up and doing it without a pickup rout, getting the template from best bass gear, and doing it myself - but my freehand routing skill would need some practice first lol.

I've had them do custom routes for me a few times. In all cases, what I asked for wasn't something they offered as an option. I'm of a similar mind as you, thinking about doing the routes myself with a router and template, but not really wanting to do that because of lack of experience and fear I'd really screw something up. Which is why I was happy to pay them the additional fees for doing non-standard routes for me.

Now, they may have changed their policies & practices, and they might have stopped doing custom routes altogether. But if you haven't yet heard the hard no from them, it's still an avenue worth pursuing IMO.

Incidentally, I've been to visit Warmoth a few decades ago, specifically sometime in the 80s or early 90s. I bought a guitar they had made to test a new fret cutting machine, that they'd put together using parts they didn't think would sell easily. I loved that guitar. Sadly, it was stolen.

These look awesome.
Are these Dinky P bodies?
And how did you get the weight down? Is it due to the rear cavity rout outs?

Just finished this a couple of days ago— my short scale take on the Joe Dart bass made with Warmoth SSB parts. The body is one piece swamp ash and super light. After this pic I added a string retainer, but still need to get strap buttons on it. It plays and sound great. Really happy with how it came out.
what is the weight on this short scale P?

I am considering a Warmoth build. years ago I built up a Warmoth J, solid oiled walnut body, maple/ebony unlined fretless neck, Seymour Duncan J bass pickups with a hipshot bridge and tuners. It was a great bass. I should have kept it, but it was a little on the porky side, at roughly 10 lbs.
now I find myself wanting something noticeably lighter than my 9.3 lb Rickenbacker. I have just gone thru another rotator cuff tear on my right shoulder and it’s just not working anymore!
I am thinking of building a short scale fretless 4 string.
weight and compact size would be important so it would be a warmoth 2x2 headstock on a 30” scale.
I really like the G-4 body, but I understand it’s not available chambered. if not then a short scale P body
my thought was a roasted swamp ash body (chambered) with an oiled Walnut top, rear routed, a single pickup (maybe a Lace Alumabar P) and a roasted maple neck and fingerboard.
Using the 2x2 with resolite tuners, hipshot thrubody bridge, the Lace P alumibar, and rear rout, oiled body and neck My goal would be to keep total weight under 6.6 lbs. does that sound possible

Ok Warmoth friends, I have one of those "purely aesthetic" taste questions where I am nonetheless seeking your opinions and preferences. Do any of you have Goncalo Alves necks? If so, what colour hardware did you use?

I normally go for gold hardware, but the body of the bass will be orange, so gold will clash. And black with orange is a tad "halloweeney" for me. So on the body I'm doing a nickel bridge and white nobs.

But on the Goncalo neck? In your opinion, would it look weird to have black when the instrument is so bright and there is no black on the body? Would gold clash, given there is no gold on the body?

Anyone got pics of Goncalo necks?
