I think the MM is 2.75" at the heel and the Warmoth is 2.9. I could be wrong though. I should play some fender basses and see what they feel like. Problem is they are all upside down. At least for me.

Thats probably pretty accurate. Not sure Fender's 18 mm would give you a lot of grief compared to MM, but MM is too narrow for me, so YMMV.
FYI, I tossed some Basslines single coils in my Warmoth Deluxe 5 (Ash/Maple) running passive....and already it sounds as good as any Sadowsky Metro I have ever owned.
will Warmoth add a pickup route to a body in the showcase? there's an ash P body that i can't take my eyes off, but i kinda want a P/J. I'm sure they'll do it, just wondering what they might charge
Usually, yes they can, and for a standard Jazz pickup size in the usual bridge position there should be no extra charge. But it's a good idea to call or e-mail to confirm.

You can fit 18mm at the bridge, no problem. I got 18.5mm with plenty of room on the edge with a Deluxe 5.

yes the deluxe 5 is designed around the Fender spec 18mm. you have 3 holes pre-drilled for the bridge, do you know which bridge?

Pau ferro fretless fingerboards FTW. What pickups/electronics are you planning to install if I may ask?

IF you're after a warmer sound...may I suggest a bubinga/bubinga fretless neck? Snot slick - warm, with great fundamentals. I've had 6 of their necks (fretted), and my latest is pau ferro/maple. ALL have been outstanding in their own way. Sadly they've not all been as consistent in shape/size as wished (a couple were owned for only a short period). Below is a pic of a bubinga/bubinga neck over a ebony/bubinga neck (fretted).

I love her like she was one of my prize G&L's. Alder body with tobacco burst, full wenge neck, hipshot vintage bridge & string retainer, custom neck plate, grover titan tuners & SD Antiquity II Jazz Bass Pickups. I had Fender noisless pickups in it at first but they were just ok. The Antiquity II's are God to me now.

Love the tuners their nice & smooth. The whole bass is 9lbs. on the dot. Deep tight punch with warm overtones & tons of growl. She also has a Graphtech black tusq nut & scahller strap locks.
