Yeah, the info has been posted up in a few places. Like i said on the last page, apparently the cost to have them made was to high to keep selling them. Thats a scary thought considering how expensive they were in comaprison to just about every other pickup on the market. I wanted a set or 2 to try out but now im pretty much SOL. I guess i can only hope the wait for my other pickups is even remotly worth it.

Hey, no problem. I'm sorry I was a bit snippy there. :scowl: I don't know how many times I've heard "why would anyone in their right mind play a bass with wide spacing?" - as if you'd have to mentally deficient to do such a thing.

Personally, despite my preference for wider spacing, 3 of my 4 current 5-strings have 17mm-17.5mm spacing. I find myself having to work a little harder to play clean, though I spent many years with standard Fender (19mm) basses, so that's what I'm used to.

As long as it's comfortable and not inhibiting, play whatever you like! :)

Sorry to just bust in like this..... but.... I finished the "Ray" build... all that was left were the Gold headstock parts... got em yesterday and now.. Ta Dah !

I couldn't find the tuners like the black ones in gold anywhere ! so I got Fender ones from Bass Parts Resource, they were pricey but I really like the cloverleaf shape better.... next..... a pro setup.

Dude, I'm in the same boat. I used to own a 5 string, and disliked the narrow spacing. I actually looked into wide spaced production models, and I think the old Yamaha TRB-5 was a wide spaced as is the Warwick broad necks.

I saw that wider Gecko and I believe someone told me that the wide 5 is really thick. I could be wrong. Post pics if you wind up getting a wide Gecko.

Does this one have the slim/trim neck? I have a G5 neck and it is a little thick for my own tastes.

It's a "Standard Deluxe 5 Neck"

"Warmoth Deluxe 5 Necks feature our standard SuperBass construction for rock solid stability and tone. The back is shaped asymmetrically to keep perceived neck bulk down and create a thinner, fast feeling neck. The bass side of the neck is thicker, with the treble side being thinner. Your thumb will find easy reference as your hand glides up and down the neck -- a very comfortable neck to play."

I don't have any issues with the thickness, but my hand can get tired in certain positions because of the width.... I have two Deluxe 5 necks... this one is 1 7/8" the other is 1 3/4", I find the narrow one a bit more comfortable... but not by any real significant degree.
I think after I get this Bass set up it should be much easier to play for long periods of time....... at the moment the strings are 1/4" off the 12th fret.... I believe that is much higher than it needs to be, but any lower and there is un-acceptable fret buzz, that's why the pro setup.

Hey folks,

I decided to clone my Fender Am Deluxe V (since I have an abundance of parts spec'ed for that model). Pictured here is a temporary black Hipshot A style bridge, temporary Mexican/Fender single coils, passive VVT, tort PG. Vintage white over Ash, Maple neck.

So far I am very impressed with the body/neck joint fit. After I sanded a little paint from the sides of the heel cavity the neck fit perfectly with barely any room to spare. Very nice.

Here's a question to those who have reshaped your necks:

What method of thickness removal renders a more consistent profile, sanding by hand, sanding block, belt sander?

Did you remove significant amount of thickness and ever expose the steel stiffener bars?

I am considering removing some off the back to give it more of a "U" shape....as it is right now....it's got more bulk that a Sadowsky Metro, which is borderline for me.

Next question, once I get the neck sanded down, I'm considering a vintage tint. A darker vintage tint would pick up orange highlights in the pickguard. A very light tint would give it a Sadowsky Metro more modern look to it. Given the color of the body, I'm leaning towards more contrast and going vintage.

Your comments on any of the above are appreciated.

I would like to make a couple of suggestions directed to Warmoth, hopefully someone who has the ear of management will read this.

Firstly, I am very impressed with your product and WILL buy again. But I have some (hopefully) constructive observations to impart.

I spoke with several guys at Warmoth while ordering these parts, who were kind enough to check with the guys in the shop about pre-drilling for a Hipshot A style bridge. I was told that the only bridges they could pre-drill for (Hipshot spec) was for either a .687 or a .750. However, standard Fender string spacing is .708 Your Deluxe 5 neck width is based on Fenders spec and fits on my Fender American Deluxe 5 string 2006 bass. (your neck sits 1/8" taller in the neck pocket though, which cemented my decision to purchase a body from you and not mess with it)

Hipshot's website has drawings for all of their bridges, including the .708 (18mm Fender spacing) Because I only wanted a center reference hole, I opted to have your shop pre-drill for a .687 bridge and I doweled and filled the two outer holes. Not a huge deal, again, but I feel it would make sense to have a template for the Hipshot .708 bridge hole pattern which seems most appropriate for that particular model. .687 being too narrow and .750 being too wide. (19mm)

Just a minor quibble, can you guys could also pre-drill in the standard locations for strap locks? that would be very cool as well. :)

Again, these are somewhat minor issues. Overall I think the quality of your work is great in all aspects, and providing someone has the patience and skill to assemble a bass correctly, a very comparable quality instrument can be had to say, a Sadowsky Metro at half the cost.

I welcome your comments or corrections if my data is incorrect or based on any miscommunication within your own staff. If this is the case, it can be a win-win for everyone to address it.

I want to thank Bob, Spike, and Matt for their assistance willingness and professionalism in taking the time to help me design a very nice instrument.

Question for you guys with short-scale basses already.. or Wyliee, if he's watching right now.

Can any of you measure the distance from the end of the truss rod route to the front edge of the bridge on the short-scale Jazz body? I'm looking at a pickup configuration and I'm trying to see if it would fit. I tried using SketchUp to blow up a photo from the Showcase until the neck J was 3 5/8" and measuring it, but I had some trouble getting completely accurate.

So.... after a pro setup (thank you to Mark @ Wild West Guitars) this Bass is great... he filed the nut so now I can play the B string at the 1st fret without any fatigue.... I'm using a lighter right hand technique so I can play longer and more accurately. I LOVE this Bass !!!
