Hey has anyone tried putting a 72 P pickguard on a 54 P bass body routed for a single coil P pickup in the traditional location? I am really wanting a single coil P but love the look of the 72. Warmoth won't route a72 body for a single coil when I asked.
I believe the 72P pickguard will travel through the single coil rout area. Completely rectified with a Dremmel, some good files and a little patience. Awesome idea by the way! I think that would look killer! I happen to have a 54P and a 72P PG hanging around. I'll see how much work it would entail.
What am I talking about? I've got PhotoShop. Looks like a piece-O-cake fabrication! You would just have to specify rear rout with no controls if they refuse to do a 72 electronics rout on a 54 body.
If anyone needs a number, let me know. I think I have everyone that has requested one so far.

A few pages ago I posted pictures of some showcase bodies and necks I bought. Here is an update.
The black body has been shielded, and pickups & bridge installed, and is currently having a custom electronics package developed and installed by Turnstyle Switch. Unfortunately, I didn't think of taking a picture until after I had already packed the body up for shipment. And given the painstaking care with which I wrapped and protected that thing, I wasn't about to undo it all for a measly picture.
When I get it back, I'm going to have Mike Lull install the neck and tuners, set it up, and Plek it.
I haven't done much with the other bass yet. I sanded out some additional finger room for better access to the higher frets, and that's about it. I have some pen blanks of several exotic woods on order, including three korina blanks -- I'm going to use them to test finishes and make a ramp. I figured I'd rather make my mistakes and learn my lessons on a $2-$3 pen blank than a $300-$400 Warmoth body.
This thread is giving me some big time GAS! Love that triple J and just about everything else in this thread. Man Warmoth offers some beautiful woods!

Very nice. But what's up with the extra strap nut on the back, near the tummy cut?
awesome bass! the grain on the neck looks a lot better than the one i got from warmoth! did you get the vintage tint on the neck too?
That is an extra strap lock. I used it as alternative to the one on the end of the bass near the bridge. It provided a much more neutral balance and a shorter reach to the low notes on the instrument. The drawback is that it does this by shifting the whole instrument to the players right making upper fret access more difficult.
