WARNING: Jon Letts/Letts Basses

I agree with this in the sense of eleven years wanting and trying for a positive outcome. I have to wonder, if today, Letts handed you the perfect bass, would you love that bass? I doubt I would or could after all that. Stuff like this happens in life. My story starts at $60k USD. Thank you for the heads up though. And I gotta say - personal opinion, those are some ugly basses.
I'm interested. Tell us more, if you will?

Hey all, just a quick update.
So, following a couple of email exchanges to pin down details, and Jon has drawn out a template for the bass I have asked him to build, which pretty much mirrors what I requested. I've been extremely particular with details, and Jon has these and will build to my specs.
Extremely early days obviously, but his communication has been good so far, and he is starting the build process today.

I'll keep everyone updated as things progress.
Or if they don't!;)

Thanks again to everyone who's read and/or responded, all the input is a big help.
And to the forum patrons who can't understand going this route to resolve the outstanding issue between Jon and I, rest assured I hope to convince you in the future why I've gone this route.

Man, it feels like you're searching for drama now. I'll be back for the big reveal, years from now.

So we'll meet you back here in another 10 years then?

Eh. It was business. I was contracting services to a company. It was a successful venture but at a few years the signs of an impending bankruptcy of the company appeared. I got out as best I could beforehand, but it was nasty. The company tried to pull me in further offering a buy out. I know large payouts by a debtor just before a bankruptcy filing could be clawed back by the court. They offered employment options yet were interviewing people I knew to replace me. They also reeled in a couple of my vendors setting up accounts and making large orders just before the filing. After the filing, they'd make ridiculous and insulting offers to settle well below what the court mandated. After roughly four years I came away with about 42¢ on the dollar.

I had a young family at the time. We did fine. One just keeps moving forward from the current place. Ya can't change the past.

In the UK, after obtaining a judgement in court, bailiffs can be sent in. However, if they can't recover items to at least the value of the debt plus costs, then they take nothing (unless this has changed in the last 35 years, since I tried to get money back from someone who hadn't paid me for a motorcycle).
That’s basically correct. Court appointed bailiffs have a pretty low success rate and once they have failed to collect once they are not inclined to go back. Also CCJ doesn’t last forever.
You can easily end up throwing good money after bad trying to collect.
If they own property your best bet is applying for a lien on the property when the property ever gets sold you get your slice after the mortgage lender.
Take advice from a solicitor unfortunately often the advice will be to forget about it.

Just to qualify the CCJ issue. The court judgment itself does not expire but the judgment disappears from your credit register.
However to have another go to recover your money you would need to go back to court and get the debt re evaluated for interest and inflation etc.
It can get complicated which is why you need a solicitor. To get a lien on a property you probably will need a court appearance represented by a QC.
This all costs money which you need to front and then add to the debt.
You can easily end up worse off than you started.

Ok, as promised, complete openness on how things are proceeding.

On 1st February I received an email from Jon, saying he wanted to rectify matters, and a bass was the best way to settle things between us. He assured me that he was willing to build exactly what I asked for. In an email on the 3rd February, he promised to get started the following Monday. Over the next couple of days I sent him my ideas, he sketched something out and sent it to me, we agreed the shape and details and on the 14th February he told me that the wood for the build would be sorted out "next week".

I emailed Jon again with a query re danish oil on the 18th, and got no response from him. I emailed him again on the 26th to ask if he'd got the wood as promised and had started the build, and received a reply the next day to say that he hadn't got the wood yet, hadn't started, but assured me he would get it done and was "figuring it out".

So at the moment Jon's been very quiet, his social media presence has stalled, and as far as I know the build still hasn't begun.

Not a promising start, brothers and sisters. To be continued....
