WARNING: Jon Letts/Letts Basses

Just to update everyone, as per my earlier post and at his request I have emailed Jon Letts with a proposal for an instrument that would bring matters between us to a close.

The costs for this come in under the outstanding amount but would also provide me with a bass that suits my physical and musical needs. I can break down the costs at a later date if required (and obviously I'll retain the email I sent for possible future use), but it's now in Jon's hands to decide whether he is prepared to accept this proposal and work to the details and specs I've sent him, which are extremely reasonable in my opinion.
I honestly hope that works out Eddie (seriously, I do). Perhaps we should all leave Eddie to update us on progress with this, and see what happens. And only judge once he has some timely updates and evidence (whether pictorial or electronic) to share with us.

A lovely bass is a lovely bass. And rather than simply a reminder of a hard time, it might end up being something Eddie actually enjoys plying, which has a rather lengthy, tawdry, and curious back-story for long nights in the pub.

That's no concession to Jon, or any sugar-coating at all by the way - it never should have got this far at all.

Eddie is way beyond reasonable in all this. I wish him luck and good fortune and look forward to pictures of a happy Eddie with a shiny new bass.

I have to agree with others on this... DONT get Jon to build you a bass, it'll be an excuse to shine you on indefinitely. You'll be back here in 2 or 3 years saying the same things. Jon has shown a repeat pattern of behaviour for well over 10 years, why expect him to change now? Get cash from him or have bailiffs seize his assets. Even if you do get a bass, you'll be lucky if it's playable - mine certainly wasn't. The intonation was WAY off and given it had a fixed bridge with zero adjustment capabilities, it inevitably had to go back to Jon. When he 'fixed it, he sent it back uninsured and it suffered substantial damage due to the way he'd packaged it, which then unleashed another wave of problems.

Get your money back Eddie and put a deposit on an ACG or similar.

I'm speechless, such a tale of woe, over so long...years... I have never been able to get my head around 'inauthentic ' people, who have no qualms with pretending to empathise, while never intending to do the right thing.. making out that they are the victim.. I feel so sorry for the purchaser, who obviously tried to give Letts a fair go...

Why would you do this? He will just start the game again? Try to get your money. He will do the same thing again.

Get the court involved and get the money. Then use it for a builder that doesn't have all these problems. There are more than enough great ones in the UK

So you wrote post after post about how this guy failed to uphold his end of the contract, didn't want to make what you asked for right from the start, subsequently made mistake after mistake, how you got a judgement against him, how he doesn't even have the resources to refund a £1500 deposit from 10 years ago, sparking him to write a post full of excuses you've already heard and... you STILL think he's capable of building you an instrument?!?

10 years. 10 years of this. How can you not have learned by now?

Dude, seriously, just let it go. Your money is gone. He's not Carl Thompson, he doesn't sprinkle his instruments with the world's only supply of Unobtanium. This guy will never make the instrument you want. Learn your lesson, and move on.

On the other hand...

If you KNOW you're not going to get a penny of cash but MIGHT get a bass, then why not continue to pursue it?

Personally, I'd still try to have the court order converted to assets seizure and take everything he owns. People like Jon don't deserve air to breath, in an ideal world they'd realise this themselves and kindly take themselves off to a dark corner and call it a day.

Hey all. First off, thanks to everyone up to this point who has contributed in whatever way, and to those who will after I post this. The overwhelming level of support I've had has been absolutely amazing, and being honest has renewed my faith in people to be decent, because that's been severely depleted of late.

As promised, an update. As I mentioned, at his request I emailed Jon Letts with a proposal which was reasonable while not expecting anything over and above that which I'm due, in order to settle matters, and this morning I received a reply from him confirming his willingness to comply fully.

I understand there will be a lot of people out there screaming "dude, *** are you doing?!", and if I'm honest a large part of me wonders the exact same thing! All I can say is there are contributing factors which I may go into at a later date. All I can ask of those people who've supported me thus far is please, trust my reasons and judgment.

I intend to use this thread to keep everyone fully updated on future progress/events, and will endeavour to post the same level of detail as I did in my initial posts as it occurs or is required, to keep everyone properly informed on how this plays out. As you'll no doubt expect me to anyway, I will retain all correspondence and communication.

I believe Jon will grasp exactly what is at stake. He can adhere to our agreement, make good on it, and begin the first step on a path to proving he is worthy of consideration for any purchases or custom in the future.
Or he can decide not to bother and blow it again, but it will all happen under the watchful eyes of the largest online bass community.
And this time, he's starting from the bottom and building up the goodwill and faith.

Because there's no further "down" if he screws this one in public.

If the guy doesn't have a regular paycheck or money in the bank, there's nothing to take. The courts are reluctant to seize tools or other things that may be the person's means to make money. It's not easy getting blood from a stone.
This is covered in the “Handbook For Scammers” under the chapter “Now you have a judgement against you. So what?” :D
