Ok so question for all you amp guys.
I was lookin at getting a mesa boogie walkabout scout 115, but i was wondering if this would cut it as a main amp? can it handle most gigs? And if not is there an extention cab that would alow it to?

As with any amp, it's all about the speakers. My 12" Scout wasn't enough, but the head paired with a 2x12 is plenty. So yes, the amp is more than enough for all but the loudest of bands, so long as you pair it with enough speaker.

I can't imagine having an additional 115 extension wouldn't be enough to play anywhere... my 112 and 112 extension is plenty for anywhere

they actually have an extension speaker that fits underneath the Combo.. same size and everything... for both the 15 and the 12.

I love the sound, others seem to feel the bass is a bit uncontrollable.. but they get my recommendation

Same as with a head and two cabs. Adding an extension cab to the Walkabout is a little strange, since the internal speaker is 4ohms (unless special ordered as 8ohm). So, you would want a Walkabout extension cab in 4ohm version, which would result in the Walkabout head running at 2ohms... which is one of those 'OK but not recommended' things, according to the Walkabout manual. Many do it with no problems. Not sure what running an amp hot like that would do to long term reliability, etc.

The one thing I'd recommend for you is to seriously consider the 12 combo and not the 15. The 15 is MUCH larger, and to my ear, has too much boom relatively to punch. The 12 (especially with the 112 extension) has PLENTY of low end (maybe even too much for some), and while not as deep as the 115, is just as 'loud'. Nice combo if you like it warm and tubey.

The extension cabs have a touch more internal volume due to the lack of the head cut-out.

Im gonna take my lakland over to the local mesa dealer in a bit to check out the 115 vs the 112. I was going for the 115 cause i was offerd a good deal on one. Im a bit confused on the whole 2 ohm being bad for the amp thing tho. Is there something i could do to make it handle it better?

You could order an 8 ohm version of the combo and get an 8 ohm extension cabinet then all will be well in boogie land.

Just to be clear, there are a lot of TBer's pounding the Walkabout at 2ohms. I would not do it myself, and Mesa kind of says 'well, it will be OK if that's what you really want to do'. You can order the combo and extension cab at 8ohms for no extra charge (as far as I know), and per the above comment, that's what I'd do. I don't think the Walkabout puts out much more wattage at 2ohms than at 4ohms, and the 8ohm power of the Walkabout is plenty to drive that little 112 to full output.

While 2.67 ohms would probably not cause an issue (i.e, the amp will work a touch less 'hard' than at 2ohms), I wouldn't recommend running a stack where one 12 gets double the power of the other. Nothing wrong with it regarding safety or reliability or anything, just not the best use of the power of the amp, with the internal 12 being pushed a quite a bit harder than the extension cab.

Again, I'm sure it sounds fine, but I wouldn't make a 'planned purchase' using this combination.

Not going to hurt anything the way you are running it now. If it sounds good to you, all is well. If you notice the internal speaker breaking up a bit when you really push that rig, then you might be better serves with the 4ohm extension to even out the power delivery.

I'm assuming the extension cab is another Scout 112, just in 8ohms. If it is a totally different cab design, then the difference in SPL might actually result in the different impedances to work perfectly together. My comments were assuming you had two otherwise identical cabs (i.e., Scout 112's... one in 4ohm and one in 8ohm). If not... ignore my comments

You might want to look at the M6 Carbine 212 combo if they have one. It is the same price as the scout 15 combo. I have a walkabout and I play it through a neox212 and I dont think it is loud enough for a loud rock band.I know that they sound different but the walkabout really starts to break up at higher volume IMO.

Yeah, if it sounds good to you, don't sweat it at all. Again, if you hear that top driver running out of steam a bit when pushed, you might want to consider balancing the power delivery. If anything, given the slightly increased internal volume of the extension cab, that cab should wump a little more anyway, and could probably benefit from a bit more power delivery. Probably not worth spending much money on though.
