Warwick 5 string basses

Does Warwick have anything worthwhile under say $1500 in a 5 string? What happened to their Pro Series? Is that defunct?
I tried a couple of Rockbasses a few years ago and it seemed like the knobs were really cheap and you bascically got one tone out of them. One that was not available to try then was the RB Fortress 5. I heard some clips from that model recently that sounded pretty good. Who has one?
Weight? Balance? How would you desribe the tone? Mid-focused?

Not the RB but I do have and play almost daily the German Fortress One. I get three distinct sounds, two in active and one in passive. I use DK silver tapered rounds which have a really nice clean sound with the MEC pups, but can be tamed by just backing off the treble on the bass. Mine has a swamp ash body and a wenge neck and fingerboard. I play this bass almost for every gig I do it's so versatile. I got this one used for around $800 about 7 years ago. Look for a used German model. Bass Central in Orlando currently has a used 2001 Thumb 4-string for $1,499. Check the TB classified every day. My 5-string weighs 11.5 lbs. Tone can be mid-focused depending on stings and how you balance the pups. I use a 2x12 Neo cab with 350 watts and it does what I want and need. The Fortress models are very well balanced as the horn is longer which adds a little weight to the body. To see pricing and models just look at the new bass section on BassCentral.com, under Warwick. Colors and woods are described and shown as are the prices. New will usually be over $2,000 but nice used ones can be found in your price range. Good luck! These may be worth checking out, they are fantastic. These are new old stock basses, but 100% German Warwicks.

I've tried out a warwick bass a few times. they sound great, but they are heavy. the rockbass corvette I once tried out was lighter and has the same sound quality(at least from my perspective it does). personally I would choose rockbass over an actual warwick not only because they're lighter and more affordable, but they also have alder bodies(which I am a fan of alder body basses). I would like to try them out once again if I ever get a chance to go to a guitar center or a sam ash.

i own a 10 lb 5 string warwick dolphin, owned a 9lb 5 string Ash bodied FNA, a 10lb Ash bodied Vette so not all of them are heavy. and used is where the value is Warwicks of many flavors can be found in great condition for under 1500.

If you're looking at Warwick you can get some great used German made ones for $1500 and under.

You can get most German Warwicks for less than $1500 used. All of them aren't heavy. My 5 string German Corvette is around 8 pounds. It is lighter than my 4 string Fender Jazz.

If you are looking for a new Warwick, either Pro Series or Custom Shop, I would suggest going thru Warwick Depot. I got my Custom Shop Streamer $$5 thru Mark and he is great. Pro series are back and made in Germany now. I have not played the new ones but the old models were very high quality. Check out Bass Central for price comparison and even Ebay. Guitar Center might also have what you are looking for. I got my Katana NT5 thru them at a great price
