Warwick Corvette repair/finish questions

I have a 2003 Warwick Corvette 5 (Made in Germany), Bubinga body, bought used off Craigslist back in like 2010. I've been having some problems with the jack and got to looking at it and realized that a previous owner replaced the standard jack socket with a open jack mounted onto a plate and then surface-mounted to the bass (common football-shaped plate). To accomplish this mod, they drilled out the jack hole to about 3/4in all the way through to the control cavity.

I want to fix this, and feel confident that I can cut a tidy plug out of some bubinga, (matching the end-grain might be hard). My biggest challenge is trying to match the original finish. Do y'all think it's possible to get "good enough" results by simply plugging the hole and sanding/waxing the area, or will it look extra janky? Bass is absolutely not minty whatsoever, but I'd like to do right by her.

All input and/or opinions will be appreciated.

You might want to reconsider your plan. The barrel jacks that are common to these basses routinely give problems and fail at a far greater rate than a half-decent open frame jack. I would consider the mod on your bass to be an upgrade. I acknowledge that you may want to return the bass to its original condition, but it has been compromised now and your efforts will not return it to “original” condition anyway. So consider the compromises. Both options are compromises.

Probably the easiest option as well. I have an older Corvette 4 string that still has the barrel jack and it hasn't had any problems, so I guess I didn't consider the fact that this might be an upgrade, even if it looks janky. Thanks for the input!

Feel free to embellish the existing standard jack but attempting to restore to its stock barrel-jack platform would be a step backwards IMO. They're pretty much "consumable", even the more highly-regarded Switchcrafts. The open-frame sockets are at least readily accessible & serviceable.
