Warwick corvette

I was the only bidder, if it was't me, no winner then. I know its not fair not to pay, but don't think its a big sin :D If I won after like 30 bids, then it would be shame not to pay
That's not how it works. You entered a contract by bidding. Now you are intending on breaking that contract because you didn't bother to find out what it was you bid on prior. Pretty scummy behavior imo...

Regarding the marker over the RockBass logo, I will admit that I'd be inclined to black it out as well, but I'd never sell it on without being explicit that it is a RockBass model.

Don't do that. A future seller might try to pass it off as a German Warwick and you don't want that. If the Rockbass logo shames you cover it with electrical tape or something less permanent. Or don't buy it.

It’s kinda like advertising a Squier Affinity as a Fender Jazz bass, it’s not completely wrong but....?

Actually that is not at all the case. It is a Warwick. Go on the Warwick website. They are Warwick basses, but made in China. More like Fenders made in Mexico. They are not marketed as being made by a lesser company owned by another company like Squire or Epiphone. My warranty on my Warwick Rockbass Corvette is from Warwick. There is no sub company called Rockbass. It is a line of basses of Warwick that are more affordable because they are made in Asia rather than Germany. All my case candy says Warwick.

I think wizard65's point is that in both cases the product is being represented as something it isn't.

I've had a couple of Rockbasses and they are not bad instruments at all, not even the early ones. I've had several German-made Corvettes and currently have a very nice '08 fretless 5. But you pay a lot more for a Warwick that isn't a Rockbass.

I don't think you have much of a case for not paying. It's declared as made in China, and although the RockBass insignia is blacked out it's easy enough to see it's there, plus the control layout tells those who know that it's a Rockbass.

Really this is buyer remorse, @Luka. You bid before checking it out completely and now wish you hadn't. I guess it's down to your conscience if you pay... if it's any consolation, it's probably a nice bass...

Here is the thing...
The Rockbass line of basses are still Warwick basses. There is no company called 'Rockbass'. They are simply an affordable Warwick bass made in Asia.

It isn't like Squire is to Fender as Squire is a wholly owned subsidiary of Fender.
It isn't like Gretsch is to Fender as Gretsch is a wholly owned subsidiary of Fender.
It isn't like Guild is to Fender as Guild is a wholly owned subsidiary of Fender.
It isn't like Epiphone is to Gibson as Epiphone is a wholly subsidiary of Gibson.

Based on how you're looking at the Rockbass line of basses it would be as if Fender's made in Mexico would be a separate company. They're not. They're made by Fender in a Fender plant in Mexico.

The Rockbass line of basses, although made in Asia, are still Warwick basses. Period.
There was no real misrepresentation here. The Ad said Made in China. China is not Germany.

Duh

Try again. The Corvette Proline was a $1500+ bass in 2002 when I purchased mine (plus extra for custom options and hard case).

Not a "budget friendly" line, at all.
I understand where you are coming from. It is the budget friendly version like an s2 is a budget friendly PRS or the metro version of a Sadowsky. Keep in mind that a custom shop Corvette $$ is 3000€ minimum and a GPS Corvette $$ is 1700€ minimum. The equivalent of a German made Corvette proline in today's listings will run 1400€. Thus I called it budget friendly but should have said "more budget friendly." I am sorry to have incensed you.

Pretty sure it's eBay suicide to not pay for a bid you won, unless the seller was going beyond his way to make you think the bass was indeed a German made Warwick.

The bass looks nice, and nowadays some players use so many pedals and effects that you wouldn't be able to tell the difference. Take this opportunity to learn 3 things:

1. Always research before you click buy (I've seen posts here of people asking questions minutes before actually buying)
2. Don't expect "high" end basses to be around the 500 dollar mar on eBay. If you want a "high" level bass, then save up and buy such bass
3. Never pay for anything with debt unless you can cover for it, that's how bad things happen

I think the point with the later Corvette Proline is that the only difference between it and the German Corvette Standard was the country of manufacture - it is the same quality of build as a German one. The Rockbass is a budget line, but still with Warwick quality control.

Pay for it because you said that you would.
It's that simple.
Otherwise, *you* are the non trustworthy "scammer".
Live honorably and deal with your own mistakes.
As others have pointed out, you got a good bass at a good price. You may love it. If not, you can resell it.
Not to me however, because of your lack of character.

Hi guyz, I've just won auction on ebay. Warwick corvette 5 with case for 400$+50$ shipping. I'm just too scared to pay and get scammed. I was writing to the seller and asked him to send more detailed pictures and he told me that its in great condintion and looks like new. So, forst of all, is it THE Warwick? Is it possible do identify it with serial number or something? The guy seems a good seller tho, 200+ feedback and 100% positive. Also is there any way Ebay pays you back or sometimg if you get scammed? I know I'm paranoid right now but 450$ is a lot for me, I've to pay it with a debt. Here are listing pictures of the bass. Thank you guyz for your attention

I’m pretty sure this is not a German made Warwick. It’s also more than likely passive. Neither of which is a deal killer, but puts it on a par with Mexican Fenders, and other instruments made in Asia., I played one a my local GC a while ago, and not a bad bass,
but you aren’t going to mistake the quality of it compared to one made in Germany. One other point, it’s going to be lighter than my babinga boat anchor Corvette STD.

Given the rockbass bit is obviously blacked out, I'm not sure I'd trust the vendor. I'm sure you'll get the bass and all...I just wouldn't want to give someone like that my money.

It's possible they did it on their own so when playing live people were under the impression it was genuine, but that should have been CLEARLY stated on the listing.

The Warwick Custom Shop of 2018 is not the Warwick Custom Shop of 2002, when I placed my order. Warwick had yet to create the RockBass line, and was a much smaller production company. The USD was about 1.00 to the EUR versus 1.17-1.23 currently.

In 2002, Warwick took custom orders as additional options to standard production basses. In recent years, they have an entirely separate price list for the Custom Shop Masterbuilt instruments that starts at $4999.99 USD for a Corvette $$ and goes up from there, and *then* you can add the prices of the options you want to that base price. There is no way to specify custom options on the current Pro Series Teambuilt instruments. The closest thing to my Corvette Proline in the 2018 price list would be a Corvette Standard bubinga active-active, which lists for $2699.99 USD, or nearly double what the same model cost in 2002 ($1399 USD).

At the time I placed my order, its list price including all options was $2244.00 USD. Even only accounting for the 20% change in the exchange rate, that would be $2692.80, today, but of course, that isn't even considering inflation. For that, we have to tack on another 40% (per US BLS statistics, 2002-2018), so it's really $3769.92 USD in 2018 dollars, or €3,225.11 EUR.

Starting price was 399$ and i just bid 400$. its all about my ignorance, I know guyz, alright? I never did a thing like this! bought over 40 items on auctions. But this time, I just hadn't time to research, I asked to seller if he could send me more detailed and close looking pics, and he wasnt too friendly, just told me that bass was in a great condition like new. Then I get doubts, because once I heard that people are buying good rating ebay accounts and use it for their evil plans, scamming lots of people. My heart was beating like a drum machine the last second I bid. It's about my ignorance, if I knew that it was rockbass and not The Warwick, I wouldn't bid
You didn't have time to research, but you had time to ask for more photos and get a response from the seller. The ad clearly states made in China. From what I see and five minutes with Google and this website, I could have determined what this was. Buy the bass. If you don't then be the guy nobody deals with. Especially if you buy here at TB. I fully research my buyers, which takes another five minutes on this site.

You could do what I did and make your own truss rod cover. Looks nice to me, and it doesn't say "rockbass"
