Warwick newbie question

Hey guys.. I picked up a warwick 5 string today... I liked the way it felt... however, the strings sounded a bit flat. Is this normal? Or is this because it is a passive bass? Or maybe I am used to playing Ibanez steel strings (elixers) that have a ton of sustain.

Maybe they are just the strings? They did feel alot more coarse than the smoothe strings I'm used to.

Any help would be greatly apreciated... I guess too I am looking for confermation that if I get a Warwick bass it will be a good step up for me no matter how it sounds.

I believe Warwick strings all basses from the factory with Black Labels, and those will chew up your hands. Could be that particular set is just old...

If you're serious about buying it from a shop, have them restring it.

True that - Black Labels do come on Corvette's and they are very coarse. They also sound very dull once they go. Slap soe new strings on there and I think you will be very pleased... I personally like the Black Labels, but make sure that they fit in the bridge. I think they might have corrected it by now, but my bridge only accepts tapered B strings.

Ohh maybe thats it.. yes the strings tore up my fingers pretty bad, and the bass had lots of dust on it... perhaps the strings were old. I'll have them re-string it, thanks so much guys!

The best thing I ever did for my Warwick was take off the factory strings. I did not care for them at all. I put on DR Hi-Beams and never looked back!

I recently bought a used Corvette Double Buck and I love it...

I like the sound and feel of Rotosound Roundwounds on it - nice and bright and they bring out the best from the bell-brass frets. Great for tapping. They are also capable of deep boom on this bass.

I think Warwick makes some of the best basses out there for the $$.

Alright! I took the plunge!

I traded:
1 Ibanez electric Guitar
1 Ibanez BTB 470 Bass
1 Line6 POD Live XT
1 Jamman music pedal looper thing
1 Markbass Minibass amp (i paid 450$ for it a couple days ago for presidents day sale I returned it)

And got this Warwick. I actually dont know what model it is because guitar center took off the tags. I know I got ripped off trading all that but most of the things I didn't use anyway.. I have spent about 2 hours so far today with this bass now!

I decided to get this one because it is Active... I am not a technical person but I figured this one would be better than the cheaper passive ones because more tonal control. I am loving this bass sooooooo much!!

This is all wood.. does anyone know what precations I need to take to preserve this? Obviously wipe it down each time I play.. but does the wood need any special treatment or anything? Also I am in Tucson AZ.. does this need a humidifier?

Warwick strings SUCK. Awful awful awful strings, the worst i've ever come across.
