Warwick or Fender Jazz?

I bought a warwick corvett fretless 10 years ago, just wanted a fretless to play around with and I quickly fell inlove with it. It sounds great and plays great, was very easy to get used to and play accutatly.

BUY THE WARWICK

i have own plenty of wicks and had several jazz basses i owned ....

i sold all my jazz basses and stuck with the warwicks...i love the sound they put out... a very growly compress punch and my bandmates just love the sound:D ...not to mention that they take a beating...they are a great value

I'd say go check them both,
I had a vette for a month and really liked it, I also tried a jazz bass at a music shop,
they feel very different.

P.S - for me the answer was Warwick and i bought a streamer, they are awesome!:P

I have both as well and like both of them... Honestly the Jazz deluxe I have has a very good growl to it as well but the mid range is not as pronounced as the Warwick. The Fender is more of a scooped out mids kinda growl and the Warwick is more of a low mid kinda of growl both sound great though. Sometimes I just wish my fender was a five stringer.

Cool!
I'm going to buy a fretless.
Which one has the beter growl though?

From what I've heard, Fenders have more of a "classic growl" that comes mostly from the pickups(unless I'm mistaken). Warwicks are famous for their growl, it's a deep, dry, low-middy, woody sounding growl that cuts very well, they're also known for having some of the best sounding fretlesses you can get.

if its a fretless that makes it interesting. i have a Highway 1 jazz fretted that I love, and a Rockbass Corvette 5 string fretless that rocks also, two waaaaaaay different animals. but none are my main bass so this is tough. i have found i like active electronics on the warwick for agressive fretless tone!!!!

lol, funny thread.

I had a Warwick Streamer for around 20 years and I swore for all that time that no other bass could get close to it for the tone I liked.
Long story but I sold it and ended up buying a Fender Jazz (2009)
Now I couldn't be happier with the way the Fender sounds and plays
and don't miss the Warwick at all.

No moral to the story but it's whatever floats your boat in terms of sound and playability.

You can't go wrong with either imo.

On the Warwick side I've owned a Corvette 5-string, a Bleached Blonde thumb 4-string, and a 5-string Rockbass Fortress. On the Fender Jazz side I've owned a '78 Jazz and a Squier Classic Vibe 60's Jazz. When I'm ready to buy another bass, it will likely be a Fender Jazz (I've really wanted a Reggie Hamilton signature model). I'm done with Warwick - they just didn't do it for me.

I so want a R. Hamilton ! I`ll take mine in `burst, please ! That is one cool machine. I have a MIM J Deluxe with the Suhr pups. I like it; it does alot of things good, it just doesn`t really excel at anything. Versatile, without a really well-defined identity. The Hamiltons are in a whole other ballpark, though.

First of all, I am admittedly biased towards Fender in this case. I haven't had as much experience with Warwicks, but I have played them on a number of occasions and this is my conclusion:
I've never been very fond of Warwicks solely because their necks are freakin enormous. They sound great and they do play very well for what they are, but I feel like I'm wrapping my hand around tree trunk when I grab the neck (I have pretty big hands). Personally, I'd probably go with a nice jazz bass.
I've also owned a fretless Jazz bass myself and I know from experience that they kick all kinds of ass, even the cheaper models are great basses. But I can't fairly compare it to a fretless Warwick, I've only played one once at a Guitar Center, so that hardly counts for anything.
