Warwick streamer stage - please advise?

Anyway, the SSII's are really nice instruments. The "golden era" instruments especially so.
the nice thing about my vintage 88 thumb NT was the neck profile/radius.it had the most gorgeous un-warwick like neck ever with a nice round radius, not like the basically flat ones of today. I suspect a vintage streamer would be similar.

My dearest community,

I am writing this from the footsteps of an overseas hotel, completely insomniac at 4am, an in need of advise. I have been lurking talkbass for a while (although silent), learning and enjoying the sense of community and knowledge from y'all.

A little background prior to the topic of discussion that will be: "thoughts on buying a Warwick Streamer Stage II that I absolutely do not need?"

I started playing bass +10 years ago... first bass: Ibanez SR200, wife's gift. After a few unsuccessful attempts at playing the bass consistently as a hobby (never in a band, been an intermediate guitar player for +20 years) I went back to playing bass intermittently, 2 years ago. I got myself a nice entry level Warwick Corvette (China made, 2013) 5 strings. Loved it compared to my Ibanez, and then went on to get a fretless, same thing.... loved the sound of the wicks.

I am a physician in the US in my 40s, and with little time to play. that said I thoroughly enjoy those few moments I can rock out. Just by chance and partially driven by the looks of it, got myself one of them thumb BOs (4 string, bubinga). Fell in love. Love. That sparked my interest on different sounds and I went on to a few stores to try the fenders, ricks, musicmans, and other high ends just to find out that wood/wicks did it for me. The feel, the sound, the growl....

To make the long story short, after a year I ended up with a few warwicks on the rack:

1) RB corvette active, fretless, 5 strings (my first wick had to go, wife was about to kick me out)
2) Fretted BO thumb 4 strings
3) Infinity TCS 5
4) Thumb BO 5
5) Thumb BO 5 fretless
6) Thumb BO 6
7) Thumb BO 6 fretless
8) Alien standard 5

Amps and cabs don't do it for me yet, as I need to keep the glass in my house intact, and wife happy. I am likely to get something better than my Fender rumble 100 as I try one that does it for me.... (looking into the BC300.... and the rumble 100 was another gift from wife!)
I am well aware that playing a 1.5K bass through a Peavey 35W or a Rumble 100w doesn't make sense (or justice) for higher end basses, but cut me some slack on this one, working on it.

I have been thinking on buying a Streamer Stage II used for 2.5K, used. I cannot try it as it is an online purchase.... although I doubt it will not be loved as well as all the other members of my warwick family.

I have exercised plenty of restraint by not buying foderas, Rybskis, Alembics, etc so that's not the issue.

So the question for all those bass guitar connoisseurs out there is: go for it as it is an awesome sounding piece of equipment that I will not regret buying (I reckon it is a personal decision - broad strokes here), or is it too much of a bass guitar for a non professional/gigging bass player?

I reckon that streamers stage IIs are top of the line warwicks and I am curious to try it out..... worth shelling out approx 2.5K?!

Penny for your thoughts, and constructive criticism is always appreciated.

Regards,

G
Gus,
There are worse things in life you could become addicted to, so I say go for the Streamer. But before you do, you need to take a look at this deal...

BTW - I share your addiction...

thanks for all of your replies. I will try to address each of those individually as time allows. I slept 3 hours in the past 2 days.... great. But here I am reading each of those individually and in appreciation of the time you took from other things to reach out to a brother in need of advice.

Shout out goes to those spector boys attempting to evangelize me/us (*cough cough "I have one for sale, check it out" cough*) but it is too late.... lethally wounded... cant be cured (only those that want to be saved, can be)

that said, I must admit that it is overwhelming the peace I've reached from all your responses and decided to:
1) pull the trigger as follows (sprinkling some warwick wax in the air so it smells like woody heaven)
a. yes to the SS2
b. not yet to the dolphin unless I can try it first (not as eye candy as I wish it would be, not disagreeing that it is gorgeous, but hey, redheads are not for everyone)
c. my RB corvette fretless stays in the family as it looks very very very pretty and sounds amazing [*cough cough* wife's gift * cough*]
d. the buzzard looks intimidating/sexy/massive, and I am not sure I can pull it off.... maybe after a night out with poor recollection of events I may find a box sitting on my porch within a week of ordering. cannot confirm nor deny that this is likely or not to happen (my grammar is starting to transpire my exhaustion, English not my first language.....but I can order pizza over the phone so that's that)
e. starbass, aliens (mine will be in the launch pad soon I am afraid, not much of an acoustic player and nowhere to rest my thumb), CVs, LVs, Fortresses, corvette prolines and katanas (I would be wielding this one in case of a zombie apocalypse) will have to wait in line for now......... points well taken and much appreciated.
f. after the SS2 finds its way here (out of town for 2 more weeks) then I'm off to amps (thanks Friendlybass for your suggestions!)

Last but not least, one of the terminal symptoms of my/our addiction is evident and pounding: even though I am having a great time working overseas; with my family having fun at the pool while daddy gets the bacon, I terribly miss playing my basses.... for at least for 10-15 minutes..... That said, all your replies make this very bearable tickle and musical emptiness feeling much more gratifying knowing that it will come to an end soon. This is the type of pain that heals and gets worse at the same time every time you plug your warwicks (take that spector boys).

Cheers, and I promise a high def bass family picture as I get back home.

Gbass...

I bought my flaming blond 5er from warwick depot -
they are solid people to deal with. a friend also got a killer deal there too.
I might be that other person. It's where I bought my Flaming blonde as well. Great to deal with, sent me plenty of pictures on request and that Streamer has been tempting me for quite a while. I'm a Spector guy when it comes to that shape though so I don't think I'll be buying the Warwick one.

IMHO, the Streamer Stage II is THE Warwick! That's why I have two of them :D. So IMO go for it and buy it brother.

I've owned over 25 Warwicks. Half of them were neck-throughs (including a '95 neck-through boire Dolphin Pro I). I have also owned about 10 Spectors including 3 U.S.A. Spectors. Out of all those, these Warwicks are the only two that remain:

I purchased the '94 5-string new in 1995 and the '91 4-string used in 2002. I have bought and sold 18 Wicks since 2002, but IMO the SSII is king!

have you considered BA?

LOL! Yeah, I should elaborate. What I was trying to convey was that the Warwick necks are very stiff and stable. This is a very good thing. But at some point every neck needs truss rod adjustments. However, because the Warwick necks are so stiff and sturdy, my experience each time has been that it takes more turns of the truss rod to get the neck straight. As opposed to the run of the mill maple necks, Warwick necks don't warp as easily. But the flip side is that when they do, you will max out your truss rod faster than other necks exactly BECAUSE of the neck's stiffness. I always wondered why Warwick doesn't implement a dual truss rod system, ESPECIALLY on 6-string necks as well as the broadneck versions.
