I found a shopworn Warwick Thumb 5 NT with a wenge neck for about $1,500. I can see where it might balance a tad funny, but it has a killer midrange tone. Since I have established that I truly enjoy the thrill of new gear, should I go Thumbs up?

Warwick Thumb 5 NT

When I started looking for my first 5-string about 3-4 years ago, I went to my local Guitar Center and played a Thumb NT 5. I WAS ABSOLUTELY BLOWN AWAY BY THE TONE!!!! If I had the $$$ back then, I would have jumped on it. I "settled" for a used Thumb 5 BO-a very nice bass, but the NT was killer. If you can deal with the weight, get it!!!!!

The Thumb 5 NT is generally a great bass... but you are likely the #1 GAS-man on TB....

I'm at peace with my GAS. I'm no longer fooling myself that I have good reason for getting new gear, if I can get it, I will, end of story.

I've always wanted a Thumb. When I was in the market in the past, something else always popped up that I couldn't turn down.

I think we're a lot alike regarding GAS problems.
In regards to the Thumb---if you have the means to get it, go for it!!
I had a Thumb 5, loved the sound, but found the spacing to be too narrow for my fat fingers, so I had to let it go. So, my advice would be to play it and see if you like the string spacing. It does have a bit of adjustability, though. However, I just found a broad neck Thumb 5 and I am happier than a clam at high tide! Good luck
Lucky!!! I'd kill for a Broad Neck Thumb BO 5. I have the same problem, I don't care so much for the narrow spacing on normal Warwick 5's.

My Thumb GAS subsided a bit when I came home and played my Fender Jazz Deluxe V for bit. I would like to a/b my Fender with the Thumb this week. I love the Thumb tone, but my initial impression is that the Fender is much more comfortable.
We'll see!
