was there a second line of music man?

fender has squier, gibson has epiphone, warwick has rockbass. i remember hearing there was a second, cheaper line of music man basses at one point, but they stopped making them.does anyone remember what they were called?? i knew at one point but forgot.can you help me out?

SUB is the US-made MusicMan line that was discontinued. They would be more analogous to Fender Highway 1s. The OLPs are MusicMan authorized clones that would be more analogous to Squiers.

Used SUBs will be more expensive than a new OLP but could well be worth the difference. Trust your ears and hands to decide.

OLP was not MusicMan's "second line" that was the SUB. OLP was licensed to an Asian manufacturer to produce licensed copies of EBMM basses. SUB were made by EBMM in their American factory right next to the StingRays and Sterlings.

+1. I've been fortunate to play dozens of basses that cost thousands of dollars (note: I said play, not own) and hundreds that cost less; but the the very best action I EVER played on in 40+ years, bar none, was a used SUB at GUitar Center. It obviously had received a professional setup before being traded in.

Bluesy Soul

hiho, olp was a brand made under license by another company. The sub bass was an afforable musicman.I bought one cause i liked the look of course the price was right as well.
All I can do is recommend one as they are a real steal. If you fancy a musicman but are put off by the price or the finish on the full on ones get one while you can cause this one is staying put.
These basses are real working basses the finish on the body is indestructable. Some people do not like like the finish on the neck but if it bothers you sand it back.I have not got an issue with it as it is starting to wear through n is nice n slippy n smooth.
In conclussion use your head n get one or at least try one out.
