Was this a good buy?...

For $750 you did good. I have an '81 B401 (this is the active version of the 301) in natural/brown, and it is a beast! It has a great neck, and is super fun to play. Now, my only advice is to find a nice, wide, padded strap.....cause it's heavy! (at least mine is)

I will add this though, it is kind of pain to set up with that 3 point bridge. Since the saddles are not adjustable on an individual basis, you kind of have to raise the bridge up more on the treble side to compensate for the radius of the neck (at least that is what I have done). It's going to take some time with the big set screws and the small adjustment wheel underneath, to get the action where you want it..... so be patient! Once you have it set, your good and it should stay, but getting there can be a battle.

Nice Guild bass at a fair price, I don't have that model anymore but I have a bunch of Guild basses including SB-202...same pickup style. The B-30X tend to neck drive but they're lighter, they all sound great.

Greeting from up the street! I'm less than a mile from the NP line off Smith.
Nice. I've heard a lot of people talking about neck dive with those. If that's the case, it will be my first bass ever that has that issue. Must be a way to compensate for it. Fill the end of the body cavity with lead? :D

The only one I had was in the late 80's and I just lived with the dive. It's tough to compensate for the headstock and tuner weight by ballasting the body, another option is a wide suede leather strap. I use 4" Italia straps and that might help a bit too.
