I searched for one, but when you put the words "watch" and "club" in the search it hits everything. If there isn't one we should have one. Mostly I want pics. I have had to sell off most of my watches, I am down to three, so I need watch pron to fill the void. I am at work, so I can't post pics for my own little "club", but whatever.

BTW, it isn't just luxury watches, but if you have a cheap watch at least it should be a cool one. So lets see who out there has the Ulysse Nardin I am lusting over. Maybe my old Yachtmaster? Or one of those old watches with a calculator built in. Whatever.

I love watches. Got a pile of them.

Let's see, my current collection contains:

Breitling Superocean Auto
Zenith Elite HW
Rolex Airking
Universal Geneve HW
TAG Heuer 2000 Auto
Rado Diver Auto
Longines tank
A half dozen Skagens of various type
Close to 20 Swatches of various type, 6-7 automatics
A handful of other, mostly vintage watches (ie '59 Timex HW)
I'm probably forgetting a few. I think I've got a watch problem...

I know what you mean about a problem. If I weren't broke I'd still have a good collection (half of yours if that). I was darn close to picking up a Speedmaster but I couldn't justify it. I bet that old Timex is cool as all get out. My uncle is the big vintage watch guy, I only have modern stuff. I'll take some shameless pics later on. You should throw a few up if you have some.

All mid level watches and thankfully my watch case only has 5 spaces all filled.

I have a watch problem too, but mine is that I don't have enough cash to buy what I want. Scratch that, I have the cash but a wife that doesn't think I need any more watches.

I try to tell her she doesn't need any more shoes either but it doesn't seem to work.

Lately I've been seeing a lot of good deals on watches that are a bit more upscale than the usual department store fare and I've been thinking about getting one. Maybe you guys can tell me some things to look for. I'll never put out the money for a Breitling, Rolex or Tag but I've been seeing some pretty nice watches in the sub-$200 range. Mainly all I've been looking for is swiss movement and sapphire crystal and I regularly see those two things in the sub-$200 range. What else should I look for?

great features in a watch are easy to come by, however true swiss movement is generally an automatic watch, and i doubt you will find that at sub 200 bucks. That being said, the best watches at sub 500 bucks are generally Japanese. Quartz movement is a bit more accurate anyway, but requires batteries. Solar watches take care of the battery thing without being as expensive as complicated autos.

The first thing to consider when buying a nice watch is what are you going to use it for? If its a casual or everyday watch I prefer chronographs on bracelet bands. BRacelet bands need to be sized and should always have a double clasp of some kind or oyu risk losing your watch (its happened to me). A watch that will see more work should have a rubber strap or at least leather, and in that instance I would avoid a polished or decorative bezel sincei t wil get banged up. If its a dress watch, I prefer regular watches with jsut a date complication at the 3 o clock and not a lot of junk on the dial. Movado is an excellent choice in that respect for reasonable money. Also, Tissot is a good Swiss brand that can be pretty inexpensive and they do make some very nice watches.

I kind of rambled there, so if there are more specifics you would like let me know and I'll try to condense my babbling.

Citizen Eco-Drive Divers 200- MY Feild atch, been to Iraq a couple of times, gift from my dad

TAG Heuer Professional-MY first swiss watch, albeit a cheapy, my every day watch before the clasp wore out. A little battle scarred but a nice watch

Baume et Mercier Riviera Automatic Chronograph-My pride and joy, kept it instead of the Yachtmaster (not worth enough used)

MY photos all suck, but whatever

Oris eh? That team Chrono is a daisy! I am glad in a way that Oris doesn't get the notoriety of some other Swiss names. They could very easily command Rolex prices if pricing went by quality.

This is my number one GASser right now, but this particular one sold. I couldn't afford it anyway. I can't believe what it sold for, it was listed at 4500 before it went.

Seiko has solid watches in the 200-300 EUR range with proper steel, sapphire crystal and good japanese quartz movement - in fact I have one of their Premier series watches on my wrist right now. IMO, after the Seiko models, the next step up would be some less expensive Swiss automatic, like one of the Oris basic models, in the 600-700 EUR range.

^ good advice there. I am a Citizen guy over Seiko, but only because I like the Eco drives. I have had a couple of Seikos and they are excellent watches.

RWP, that Breitling is a beauty. I can understand from a practical standpoint why you wouldn't wear it, but darn, I'd have a hard time keeping that baby hidden. I love Breitlings, although they area bit busy for some people's taste, I can just stare at all the numbers and dials and wonder what they do exactly (tachyometer? Fuel consumption? Nothing I need). I frankly believe that if it weren't for them no one would be into Bell&Ross's instrument watches.
