Whenever anything doesn't go his way, my 6 year old says "I HATE this day!" Not that I'm calling you a 6 year old. In fact he's quite wise beyond his years, just that it feels familiar to hear the entire day blamed.

I know how ya feel. Yesterday, I went to bed at 6:30pm and watched tv. Hibernation mode.

Typical. I was exhausted at 7:30 and now it's midnight and I'm wide awake.
Anyway, I left a lot of extra meat on because I didn't remember my dimensions and I didn't want to waste a chance to use the band saw at work and have to wait until I get back there.
Also got a tiny bit of back bow when I shave the back off. But no twist, so I guess that's good. I think I'll glue some wings on the head stock, set it aside and get the body made up tomorrow. Then I can dowel it up and see where/how to carve before I go nuts with the spindle sander.

Neck thickness at 1st and 12th frets.
I measured the Laguna bass, which has a comfy neck and came up with 15mm and 19mm (not counting the FB).
Does that sound within the range of normal?

Assuming your fb is 1/4", first fret ends up about where I'd land, although I'd go a smidge thinner at the 12th - more like 24mm

My Fender Precision 4 string
15 mm and 17 mm

My Yamaha BB 5 string
14 mm and 21 mm

So yes, it sounds within the range of normal.

The fingerboard will be flat (no radius) and 3/16", the way I have it drawn up now. That would get me to right about 24mm at the 12th.

I can't judge anything in mm by eye, like I can fractions, because I've never really used metric.
But my caliper only does mm, decimals and fractions in 128ths.
It's just easier to use mm with the caliper.
So, with the FB, the neck will be right about 3/4" at the 1st fret and 15/16" at the 12th.

Makes you wonder how much you have to change +\- to notice a difference, especially if most of your basses have different necks. Oddly enough, all of mine are the same spec, so I must be particular

I've gotten used to the closer spacing of a 5 string, so I'm only doing 1-1/2" wide at the nut which I think gives me a little more than 10 mm OC spacing and a little over 17 at the bridge. A little narrow for a 4 string, but just a smidge wider than the 5 string I have. So not much of an adjustment. And the neck size/shape of the 5 string is comfy, so I'll try to match it. My only concern is if I match the thickness and shape, will it feel much smaller/different in the hand because it's narrower?
I think I'll leave an extra 16th on the thickness and see what it feels like, then sand, test, sand, test, sand till it's good.
