Not huge, but probably big enough to be a PITA.
I s'pose I could glue blocks on there now, I could tape a long shim along the side of the neck to make it run through the band saw level with the head stock ears(?)

Put a volute under every dot! Why limit yourself to just one!
Okay, this whole volute thing is bothering me now. Not because of where to put it,.....but because it shouldn't be called a "volute".
A volute is something that is spiral/scroll shaped. You could call the scroll on a violin headstock a volute and it would apply and be accurate.
The little protrusion carved on the back of a neck is not a volute.
So, now I'm wondering why it's called that, who started it and why it stuck.
Has there ever been another name for it? (There must have been).
Because calling it a volute will always feel wrong, now that I looked into it.

I'll be sprung awake at 3am with night terrors, shouting, "why do they call it a volute?!"
It's called a volute as a holdover from violin family instruments, when the bump under the nut was just the very end of the rolled-up spiral shape of the entire headstock. On guitar family instruments the scrolly part got flattened and the litte bump under the nut kept the name that really belongs to the whole thing.
Now you're ruining volutes for me. What are you, Canadian?

Nope, the neck "heel" is the part at the body end. NEXT!
The "heel" stands there with the strap around their "neck" and bangs out the guitar intro to Smoke on the Water (well, the bar or three they can recall) without even realizing what the bass part actually does.
So, we have high winds, temp is gonna plummet and a foot of lake effect snow will get dumped, starting in the next few hours. So, they already closed the school for tomorrow.
It was a good thing I brought the neck blank with me today. I was able to remove all the bulk material on the band saw and now I can work it down with the spindle sander and hand tools.
The way it looks right now is quite traumatizing. I miss when it was a beautiful, perfect neck blank. I was so proud of it.
I couldn't even bare to take pics of it.

Seriously though, it's still wrapped up from the ride home and I'm already laying in bed, getting ready to scream at hockey games till the wife gets home.
I had to clean up a whole tote full of recycling that the wind blew over and all over the driveway and street, then loaded firewood in the house.
